muzzle jump question-need help

so i went and shot today with a friend. I have been shooting at a little over 800 yds. today though we had to shoot out the bed of a pickup to get over a small hill. we were shooting at 600. i couldnt really load the bipod or even get behind the rifle very well. The muzzle jumped vertically quite a bit, this doesnt usually happen. I hit about 6 inches high. would muzzle jump account for this? and if it jumps left will it throw the rounds left etc. i searched and didn't really find an answer. I know i wasn't behind the gun very well and couldnt really drive it very well. So really just wandered what effect muzzle jump in any direction had on the desired impact. thanks

New precision rifle shooter here. I'm finding that even small inconsistencies in my position will throw shots high or to the side. You comment that "I know i wasn't behind the gun very well", and I suspect you answered your own question right there.

Plus, if your mind isn't still when you make the shot, you might as well unload the rifle and take five.

Whether you use a bipod or not, try getting a position using a rifle sling position used by high power shooters. If set up right, during recoil you'll fall back into postition and your natural point of aim. (assuming you don't allow the bipod to prevent it).

A good example if you can get to Perry or one of the Service Matches, watch the shooters firing rapid fire, or better yet watch teams shoot the infantry trophy match. They use slings only, and have no problem falling back into position after the shot.

Do you think you may have been anticipating the recoil and muzzle jump? I don't do a ton of work over 200 yards, but find this (anticipation) affects my accuracy much more than any recoil.
