Needing guidance please.....

I have Ballistic: FTE on my IPhone. Cool stuff, and working great to "get me close"
It is somewhat accurate when shooting factory loaded ammunition, but i'm having trouble with getting the most out of handloads with this program.

1- Obviously my MV is off (+/-). I do not own a chronograph (and please dont reply "go buy one") I am aware it is a handloaders tool, but I have other hobbies and other things to buy in front of a chrono.

2- How do I go about an accurate way off adjusting MV. In relation to down range performance. It is easy on the program you can just click and input your MV.

3- Any other tricks I should know about Ballistic: FTE. Im pretty familiar but i'm sure there are things I don't know that could be handy.....

Ex:

6.5Grendel-120 BT's-31.7 gr BL (C)2
At 700 yds: 23.54 MOA elevation= 94 clicks (1/4)
In reality to get MOA (or close to) at 700 yards its more like: 21 MOA of elevation.

So.....
Any help, or any other pointers or picky spots on Ballistic:FTE would be appreciated

Thanks

Re: Muzzle Velocity Vs. Ballistic: FTE

If you're not feeding it correctly, you can't expect it to be anymore accurate than the "close" that it's getting you. I understand that you don't want to buy a chrono, none of us did, but unless you have a buddy with one that you can use, you'll only be close. You should probably just lean toward investing in one.

Not to mention it's an invaluable tool for getting the most out of your handloading.

If you are sure you have the BC and the atmospheric inputs correct, then shoot out to something like 600 yards without changing your zero. Then, adjust your muzzle velocity until the drop calculated by the FTE matches what the actual bullet dropped.

I used the same technique, the program got me close then I shot for actual data. After I had enough real data, I adjusted my velocity so my drops were consistent between the calculated data and actual. Now my calculated data is within 1 click out to 1,000 yards. It seems the chrono isn't as accurate as I had hoped. If your atmospheric conditions are close you should be good to go.

Not being a wise ass-- but I just won a used Chrony F-1 on Ebay for $50. It'll pay for itself in ammo not wasted in what, 3 weeks?
Brand-new they're as low as $100, pretty reasonable for what their value is in the long run.
