Hunting & Fishing Muzzleloader Help

Im looking at buying my first muzzle loader. Mostly to hunt deer out to 250yds max. Im being told to look hard at the Knight Disc Extreme. I like the idea of the design. Do the Knights have a good reputation for being accurate and reliable? I was set on a Triumph, but now im not so sure. Thanks.

Knight rifles have a very high reputation for quality and reliability. I think the disc tech is a solution looking for a problem but others swear by them. I shoot a T/C omega that shoots better than I do. If you buy the knight I don't think you will look back, but there are other quality options as well.

A fiend of mine has a t/c encore with a 50 cal muzzle loader barrel , a 300 win mag barrel , and a 22-250 barrel. Push out 1 pin to switch between them. If you like a break action single shot, this is a great option.

Knight has a great rep for quality and accuracy. My ffl however would steer you away from them. This is solely due to the lack of give a shit since they moved their factory (he has been trying to get a replacement stock for 4 years now on his personal mz)
I will recommend the tc products for modern style of mz. I shoot an encore and it puts the traditions and cvs that my buddies shoot to shame. It could be my load though as with power belts, conicals or hornady mz thingys can barely hit a pie plate at 100 yards.

My load is like this: sst 209 shotgun primers, 110 grains of blackhorn 209, harvester sabots, hornady xtp pistol bullets.
This load produces groups at 100 that bug hole. The blackhorn 209 powder is awesome in comparison to the 777, pyrodex, etc.

It was a toss up between the T/C Encore and the Traditions Vortex.
I really like the switch barrel of the T/C, but really didn't need that feature.
After hauling around a beast of an Austin-Halleck, went with the Vortex Ultra-Light. Pure joy to carry up and down the canyons in Utah.

Not sure if they still make them but I have a T/C Omega that I love.

I shoot the Barnes tmz and 2 of the hodgdons red magnum pellets. Shoot fantastic at 100yards, I have only shot mine to 150yds. I was going to try the blackhorn 209 powder but after shooting the above i cant ask for a better combo.

Melvin Forbes makes a great muzzleloader as well, I have a buddy with one and I really like it, its more money naturally but very nice rifle. He shot smokeless powder and Parker bullets in his.

I made a headshot on a doe this morning at 8 yards with my moms T/C .50 cal and it killed it fairly dead. I'll pitch a vote in for anything T/C.

Have I told you I love my Encore. Feed it some 285gr Barnes expander mz's 120 grs triple 7 and put them down. It is a deer killing machine. I have killed to 300 yds with it

They are solid. I shoot a knight revolution but only because I got a great deal in a fire sale a few years ago. I would buy one with a hand removable breech plug. TC are tops but traditions are basically the same but for a better price point IMHO.

I really like my CVA apex. It will hold 1.5" groups at 100 yards with Barnes tmz and two 50g 777 pellets. It is also quite a bit cheaper than Thompson and is also a switch barrel. I have a 16" threaded 300 blackout barrel as well. I was going to buy a Thompson, but couldn't get away from the horror stories about inaccurate barrels needing to be sent back and tuned by the factory in order to shoot. CVA is like the Taurus. It used to be junk, but has really come a long way in the last several years. That being said, I still refuse to buy Taurus. Lol.

The knights are wonderful muzzleloaders, very accurate and well made. The T/C will shoot almost as good, or "good enough", and be simpler to operate and easier to clean. T/C omega or triumph is my recommendation. Been there, done that.

Thought I would share that my brother in law has a traditions vortex. It has a cerakoted barrel, and it has pretty deep rust at the muzzle /crown. Apparently he thought that meant it was impervious to rust...
