This is one of the first rifles I purchased, back when I was 14 or 15 (parents technically "bought it" as I was underage.) This is actually where my accuracy sickness started. I built a bench and a backstop to shoot out back, as well as taking a number of steps to make the rifle more accurate (Green Mountain barrel, VQ stock, trigger job, etc.)
Fast forward about 14 years, and this gun has basically been collecting dust. I decide that it's time to have a trainer, so I dug it out and started modifying again. I ordered an unfinished Tacticool, sanded it down, and then handed it and the rifle off on my friend Jesse, who goes by "jbell" here on the hide. He installed a full brass pillar and then bedded the action around the v-block as well as well as the first few inches of the barrel. When I got it back I painted it "multicam" which took a couple tries to get right and then painted the barreled action black. I replaced the old Weaver rail with a 15 MOA Picatinny rail from Tactical Solutions. I have a mil mil SS12x42 on order but I was inching to shoot it so I threw on a S&B 3-20.
All that's left now is threading the barrel for my Sparrow. I shot it at 50, 100, and 230 yards yesterday. 230 is a trip, incredible how much wind moves a .22 at that range. I was breaking 4" clays with pretty good consistency once I had the wind figured out.
The big question is- will this be "enough" or is it just a gateway drug to a far more expensive .22 venture?
