Hey everyone,

First things first, I am not a pro shot, and I am still learning (all tips/criticism appreciated). Yes I know the '3-shot groups' are....not great.

This is my first time attempting to work up any kind of load for my rifle. I need some help with the OCW Load Workup/Shooting that I did.

I have no clue which string of loads are best.

Any help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Some Info:

Rifle: Weatherby Mark V Accumark
Caliber: .338 Lapua
Powder: Vihtavuori N560
Min/Max Charge Obtained from Lyman Reloading Manual (88 min/95 max)

*UPDATE*
Bullet: Swift Scirocco II 210gr.
C.O.A.L. ~3.6"
1" Squares on the Target.

100 Yards from Target.
3-5 minute cooling between shots.

Cleaned the barrel prior to starting. Did not clean mid shooting.

My Load/Measurements:

  • Load 1: 90.7 (12/16" High, 8/16" Left) (Center of Triangle 14/16" From Center)
  • Load 2: 91.4 (6/16" High, 11/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 13/16" From Center)
  • Load 3: 92.0 (1 6/16" High, 1 10/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 2 3/16" From Center)
  • Load 4: 92.7 (1 7/16" High, 1 5/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 2" From Center)
  • Load 5: 93.3 (1 8/16" High, 13/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 1 12/16" From Center)
  • Load 6: 94.0 (10/16" High, 1 14/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 2 15/16" From Center)
  • Load 7: 94.6 (10/16" High, 8/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 13/16" From Center)
  • Load 8: 95.3 (1 11/16" High, 12/16" Right) (Center of Triangle 1 14/16" From Center)

The Image below has each group circled and labeled, corresponding to the above data. They were shot in order, Load 1 to Load 8.
Load 3, 2nd Round shot, had a flyer (not on target at all, user error).

I shout in this order (Top Left, Top Right, Center, Bottom Left, Bottom Right, Center Left, Center Right, Center Bottom).

Edit: Left Center group is Load 6, not Load 7. I was tired and labeled Load 6 as Load 7.

Short/Load order is like this:
1 _ 2
6 3 7
4 8 5

The groups look ok, not the greatest. Don't know what bullet grain or type? How far off the lands? You have a couple of choices I would think about. Use a different power or try to work with current. Pick three loads that share same POI, some powders have a narrow node, and some are wide. I like 3, 4, and 5 loads as 3 and 4 really share same POI with 5 right in there, maybe leaving node. Are those squares 1/2"? If so, 3,4,an 5 are shooting MOA. Scatter node maybe load 2 91.4grs.

I would change nothing and retest with 3 shots of each load 92.0, 92.4, 92.8, and 93.2. If it don't work out, switch powder or projectile. Chrony does help to see ES numbers. My 2 cents.

Updated original post with requested info.

Should I do the shots for those loads you mentioned, round robin style like I did with the previous?

Thank you for the responses trailrider121 and oldfatguy.

I will do a round robin of those four loads you listed trailrider121 and post an image of that target.
