LOL, here are a couple pictures of a USP that I have, cracked right in the polymer frame. Wondering how I can fix this thing?? H&K won't warranty to anyone but the Original Purchaser...

Sorry about the pictures, the crack is tough to see unless pried open a little, and that is hard to do with one hand while taking a picture with the other!!

LOL, unfortunately I didn't see it when I bought it off a scoundrel, I haven't seen what H&K charges for a new frame, and I don't honestly know how it happened. The thing is, the pistol doesn't show signs of being fell on or anything else anywhere else on the pistol, but something major had to do this... I would guess it wasn't while firing, unless the mag blew up or something, there is no damage other than the crack...

Wow! That is the first polymer frame I have seen cracked, but I am sure there are some out there.

I am surprised that H&K will not warrant the pistol.

FWIW I have heard that HK cs is good to work with. I would send it to them for eval, and see where it goes from there. At worst if they replace the frame the s/n's would not match reducing resale value, but would be safe and functional.

I would guess it was a double charge. Usually when you get a double charge it will vent out the magwell of the pistol blowing out the mag and putting tons of stress on that area of the frame. Did you pull the mag release off?
Ive seen a MK 23 cracked down the middle of the frame (on the seam) from a double charge. He was SOL when he contacted HK. Guy was an idiot thou, found a 45acp on the ground at a range stuck it in the gun and KABOOM.
I also know a guy that pistol whipped a car thief and cracked the frame on his HK too.

My 1st question is... Did the seller you purchased from state it was cracked?? If not, I'd be demanding a refund and shipping the pistol back!
2nd.. If HK don't stand behind their plastic junk regardless of what happens.. That's just not right ! I definitely would not want my life depending on one of these !

I'm not quite sure how to get a double charge other than dropping in a round through the ejection port with a loaded mag and then dropping the slide?? I guess that would be operator error not knowing how a pistol functions and how to operate one. If that was the case... It can be understood why HK would not honor anything... but still, I would think this would be a serious safety issue and liability if the plastic frames can't withstand this happening. Malfunctions do happen !

mcm308, by double charge they mean the bullet itself got twice as much powder in it at the factory/reloading press than it should have.

DD, as always it would be a good first start to contact whoever sold it to you and see if they will accept responsibility for not disclosing damage to the pistol. If they shaft you try giving HK a chance. Their official policy may only be to warranty the pistol to the original purchaser but this is an extreme case and is something that would be in there best interest to look at. You just need to convince them of that

The frame breaking the way it did almost looks like someone tried running it over to prove how strong it was/wasn't or hit something with it like a hammer. I've got a sneaky suspicion that if there isn't a dent on the bottom of the magazine well that the seller has a magazine with a banged up floorplate somewhere.

Just talked to H&K today. They stated that frame replacement with labor and shipping will be somewhere around $150. I think that is fair, and if I could get ahold of the "gentleman" that I bought this from, I definately would, but that is another long story LOL. Anyway, I am going to send it back to H&K and be done with it.

$150 for what is probably going to end up being a brand new frame with your trigger installed in it isn't bad. Pity the original seller wasn't honest though. It happens.

Thought about shooting it, or trying to epoxy it, but the crack goes up into the slide release, which is just behind the piece that retains the guide rod... Thought maybe not, $150 looks pretty good! LOL

Send it back to H&K with a link to this site. Let them know that you will get each and every one of us to send them nasty e-mails about their cheap ass piece of shit gun if they don't fix it. Let them know that it only takes 1/4 ofour membership to stop someone's server dead with the amount of e-mails we generate(remember Zumbo's comment on hunting with black rifles a while back?).
When they read the letter, they will have the pistol in hand. They will read the letter, adn someone there will come on the site(it's human nature). They will either fix it, or send it back to you. My guess is they will fix it.
Never seen a Glock or a Springfield do that.

150 with labor? Just updated my glock frame to new model, $40 and about 15min DIY job.(first time for me) I would imagine HK frame price cant be much more

I never have understood only warrantying the pistol to the original owner. It's the product NOT the owner that is the subject of the warranty. I guess it's an effort to get you to buy new.

This is off-topic but I pick up unfired rounds at the range and shoot them ALL THE TIME!!! Hell, I even dump them out of the "Dud-can" and if they fit something I brought... I try to shoot them! Both my Brother and I will dump out the can and say: "Hey, look at that! A perfectly good one"... Dump it in whatever it fits and blast away! Can't imagine there being a "double-loaded" round just laying there unless someone maliciously put it there. In that case, find that Mother F*$ker and.......... (use your imagination)!!!

i bought a 10mm glock that came into the country in the second shipment. 7 years later it ended up like this usp. glock was going to replace the frame for free. they gave me that and another option, if i wanted to keep all mt serial numbers matching, they would ship a frame from austria. i opted for the later. they charged me only for the shipping.
golden rule #1, if a company wont stand behind their pistol, how can you?

so what happens when they are out of bussiness it's still a plastic frame... just like a disposable coke bottle... I have a 1911 that will be passing the century mark shortly and a 1911A1 that is coming up on 70... got wonder about plastic... even plastic baby seats are recommended to be replaced after 5 years...

I would think that they would really like that pistol back. $150 doesn't seem bad at all for that rig. I would however mentioned on the phone if they gave me any slack that, Hell, I will just shoot it and see what happens! Will let you know if I get hurt! LOL.

I'm not too worried about time being a factor. Ever watched a city putting in new water lines and in some cases sewer lines. They are plastic(I use that term loosely) but like all steels neither are created equal and they all have their specific purposes and designed lifespans.

Id be irritated with HK but id replace it. First Id escalate it though because it seems in some company's front lines are monkey trained in the word no but if you get a real thinking person that can look at the pics, you may get a yes.

I don't know if that would work in this instance as since it's the frame that is the part that has the serial # that is registered on the 4473. It's my understanding there can be only one and the cracked one would have to be destroyed.

I know this is an old thread but I'm wondering what ended up happening with this gun? A buddy just had his USP do the same thing but the crack in the frame is farther back behind the mag well and above the trigger were the Tigger bar connects.

Shooting reloads so that's probably the cause in his. I told him I'd call HK-USA to help him out but they were closed for the day.

Anyone else ever have a frame replaced by them?
