My first custom - 6.5 Creedmoor

Just picked up my first custom build in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Specs...
Blueprinted R700 SA
Kreiger MTU 8tw finished at 28" + Ross Shuler brake. KG Gunkote 2400 series in Dark Earth.
1.5 AICS in OD
EGW 30moa base
Rifle Basix trigger at 1 lb.
Badger Knob
Atlas bipod
SWFA SS 5-20 HD

All work done by Gerald Kuthy of Custom Blue in Kimbolton, OH. The work looks phenomenal. Can't wait to shoot it this weekend!

I've got a set of Burris XTR low's that don't leave any room for Butler Creek caps, so I just went with the XTR's in medium. That will give me .25" clearance on the bell of the SS. I've got all of my reloading supplies and some Hornady Match ammo. I will be stretching it out to 1100+ as soon as I get my load wrung out.

Very Nice looking, i just picked up a 6.5 creedmore off of another member here and have been debating if I shoud have it rechambed in 260 so I dont have to start reloading for another round.

No need to reload for the Creedmore with Hornadys factory 140 AMAX loads for about $25.00 a box. It's the only one I currently don't hand load for. They shoot great out my rifle with muzzle velocity around 2700 fps. Just something to think about before you invest any money, or time.

I have a similar setup in 6.5x55 and it is a very stable platform. The Atlas does great on my rig

whats the muzzle OD on that krieger? im building an almost identical setup with their standard palma and yours looks great with Ross' brake. guess im going to have to put in another order with him!

Where the brake butts against the barrel, the barrel diameter is .940 give or take a couple thousanths. The blank was .930 at the muzzle before 1" was chopped off. I had him leave the brake diameter at 1" and taper back. I like the way it looks. I shot the rifle a couple of times and recorded it on video to compare the recoil pulse against my 6.5 Lapua shooting 140s with a Badger Thruster brake. I'll have to say that it feels like, and looks like there is less movement with the Ross brake. Other factors may be involved there like the difference in the Atlas bipod and the Harris that is on my other rifle, but the weights are the same. The Creedmoor feels like a 22mag and that was without the 2 lbs of scope and rings to be added. All told the rifle will weigh in at 17.5 lbs. The MTU contour is a club.

Range Report -

Shot some more today. I think this rifle is capable of putting 5 inside of a dime with any charge from 41.9 to 42.9. Some 5 shot groups. This was from yesterday.

This was today. I shot the lower group, then move a tenth of a mil left and up 3 tenths up using the same point of aim, just to see if I could duplicate it. Pulled the first. Did I mention I can't shoot 5 shot groups worth a shit. I got the velocity to 2850 with the 42.9 charge. No pressure at all.

How do you like the creedmoor vs. the 6.5 lapua. I want to get a 6.5, but dont know which would be a better choice. I like the fact that hornady makes match ammo for it for only $25-30$ compared to the expensive lapua. I've been trying to find user imput about the two different rounds and have only found guys that have lapuas. The imput is appreciated. Very nice rifle by the way!!

I've been shooting the 6.5 Lapua over a year now. It's just a home built Savage, but I have it really dialed in with the 140vlds. I can't compare the two until I get more rounds down range with the Creedmoor. One thing I like about the Creedmoor is it is easier to get velocity out of it. With the Lapua, I have to push it fairly hard at the highest node to get to 2800 fps for the vlds. I could only get the amax to 2750 out of a 28" tube. Just my experiences, YMMV.

Sorry to ressurect this again, but I did some testing today at 510yds with the 42.9 load. These were the first five shots ever past 100yds at a head target at 510yds.

I then proceeded to test bullet seating depth. Started out at 2.810" and moved up to 2.830" in .005" increments with five shot groups. Things started to tighten up at 2.820" oal. This was the best group at an oal of 2.825" (jumping .007). The four shots measure 1.375" The wind may have got me on the shot to the right or I pulled it, probably the latter. I like the vertical spread. This was only 1 five shot group so it doesn't prove much. More testing after all the brass is formed, but I think I will run with this load for a while.

42.9 is kinda on the warm side. Isn't that dangerous to chase the lands?

I've alway started @ the lands/look for the node/seat bullet deeper to see if grouping shrink.
