Well here it is, My first build!

After getting my G0709 Grizzly lathe in february and waiting until about two weeks ago for components I finally was able to start my father-in-laws 6.5x47 Lapua.

I spent quite sometime on the barrel dialing it in and final got it to within .0002

I faced off .625 inches of the barrel so that the contour would match the barrel channel of the stock. Then rechecked for runout in the bore. It was out about seven tenths so I dialed it back in.

I had already taken my measurements from the action so I turned my barrel tenon and threaded it for the receiver. I was about three quarts of a turn from being timed up with the barrels high spot on the muzzle end so I had to take .015 (Don't quote me on that cause I don't remember the exact #) off the tenon shoulder to time it up. I then had to take the same amount off the breech face to keep my tenon length right. Then I machined my bolt nose recess.

I checked the bore and made sure it was good to go. Then started the fun part (chambering) which for some reason I got no pictures of so maybe next build. I went really slow and took my time. I set it at go plus tape (.002) then ran a piece of 320 grit emery cloth in and out of the chamber a few times with oil on it and broke all edges. My hawkeye borescope showed everything looked fine so I called it good.

MORE TO COME!

Re: My first gun build

I ended up having to take the action and barrel to my gunsmith here local so I could torque it up (100 Lbs).

I decided to try my hand at Cerakote on this gun, so after reading reviews I decided to go with the air dry as I had no way of baking it.
I soaked all the parts in an acetone bath for 15 minutes and then sand blasted everything with aluminum oxide which is cerakote's recommendation for best adhesion. I plugged the chamber and masked off the crown and went to town. This was the first time that I have ever used a HVLP gun and it showed, I had to re-blast the barreled action because of excess cerakote but I got it the second time!

ond try.

With the barreled action and other components done it was time to start inletting the stock. This stock is a Bobby Hart AccuBlock Long Range Target / Tactical from stockysstocks. They have a nice finish and the aluminum v-block appears to function as it should.

The only draw back is the way that the bottom metal sets in it after machining, fine for stock bottom metal probably, but for Surgeon DBM the trigger guard end is sunk in and the other is proud. Not much you can do if you are going to set the piller's up at the right hight.

Not much else needed done except for the bolt release area & around the lug. Refinished the exposed spot's and once dry I hit them with some steel wool and called it good.

MORE LATER!

I think you mean ten thousandths...hopefully?

Look forward to range report

Yes just for clarification I meant .0002, post was changed. I have more pictures coming. Off to mount up rings and optics right now and hoping to get some rounds through it tomorrow!
