Hey brotatoe-chips,

First post here on the hide, but let's get to it. I pulled the trigger on an unfired Tikka Tac A1 today, and had a question.

From stalking in the shadows here I have came to the conclusion that a Burris XTR 2 will likely be the optic I place on this rifle, but have no idea what rings/base to purchase to get the objective (~50mm) to clear the rail on top of the rifle.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

.... like you need a hole in your head.
To the OP. My buddy shoots one of those. I'll ask him what height rings he uses and get back to you.

You missed the joke. And they say Germans dont have a sense of humor... this proves otherwise. :p

The tac A1 has a full top rail so you will want something at least 1.4" tall to the optic centerline based on general rule of thumb.

The exact model of xrt (3-15, 4-20, 5-25) doesnt matter as all the 50mm from them have the same outside diameter of 58mm and the solid rail means we know its the same the entire way so length of the optic doesnt matter.

58mm/25.4=2.28" diameter, half of that will give us the amount of scope under the optic centerline as 1.14". You will want rings at least that tall. Add in a tenth for caps and were at 1.24. I like them to not be a press fit between the scope and barrel so another tenth for clearance takes us up to 1.34 as a minimum. The 1.4 is a standard for full rail ar style stuff so thats what I would shoot for.

That's what I was looking for, thanks. I checked the sticky before posting (which was pretty much common sense) but was unclear with the rail on the fore-end. Thanks for the response!
