I wanted to make a solid platform to shoot my Barrett and other smaller calibers off of. So I did a bit of research and put together what I think is a nice setup.

The tripod is an LAR Grizzly Tripod with Pintel mount. This is of course rated for the 50. It has a nice fluid motion in both the elevation and windage directions and has easy adjustments for friction. You can lock it down to rock solid.

Of course the other part of this setup is a Hog Saddle. I had to make an adapter plate between the Saddle and pintel, which I will anodize black sometime in the near future. I also put some rubber between the adapter plate and Saddle to keep the two from twisting. The two aluminum surfaces are quite smooth, so I wanted some friction to lock them in.

I just finished assembling it tonight, I've not had a chance to try it. But I did clamp my Barrett into it and the setup is rock solid. Very stable and does not budge when getting behind the rifle. So far I'm very happy, I can't wait for some time off over the holidays to test it in the field.

    Here are a few photos.

Nice looking rig. That rifle is a beast.
    We need video!

Last week I got a chance to talk to some Barrett reps at the USASOC Sniper Comp. They had a HOG Saddle with them and said they were happy with how it performs with their rifles. You should be good to go.

Sweet setup, but aren't you gonna' get into trouble for opening your Barrett early ?

I'm kinda' afraid to ask, but how much does the tripod & saddle setup weigh?

That was an early gift to me, from me.

The setup weighs 12.4 pounds on my bathroom scale. Great for the 50, but I would not hike it up the mountain to go sheep hunting.
