Commifornia no longer
I am no steel knife guru, I just like knives always have. So I went into the mall today into a store that carries some benchmades, spydercos, crkt etc. along with some decent stones. I asked to look at a crkt I think, guy runs over, gets it out and starts going on about aerospace coatings, angles on the blade and locking mechanisms in the knife (I could care less). So he is going on and I humor him. I asked about Emersons and he replied, "naw you dont want one they are shit. You need this crkt. You can still wave it, and it will open into a reverse forward grip. With the anlges and locks on this knife it is rated to withstand 1400lbs of pressure. Which means you could draw it and stick it through body armor and it wont snap the blade, just tear that body armor up." I stood there mouth open, with a look on my face of did you just really fucking say that? How many people buy knives in the mall that are going to need to "stab through body aromor?"

So I keep talking to mall knife hero and asked about this bm in there. It felt good, and was a slick looking knife, seemed to have a good edge on it for being a showcase model. Then I saw the price $220! I asked if that was a mistake, "Nope, thats a hell of a steal." At that point I had to point out it was more than the Emerson comander in my pocket that is 4 months old. Guy tried telling me that those comanders are $300. I just went WTF and walked out.

Thats what I get for going into a knife store in the mall....

Re: My knife store rant

Yeah, the cool topic is how to negate body armor, eh?

Wonder what his boss thinks of that? Or the corporate boss?

I'm having an issue with a major (?) knife brand at the moment, and have been doing so since the beginning of May. I'm very close to disclosing all on a thread.

Should have bought Emerson, or something of that 'repute'. Didn't, and went with a 'long time brand name' that we're regretting so far. Point of all this is, my 'customer service' rep is sounding like your 'salesman'. Must be a disease.

probably this...

or possibly this (the end is the best part)

</div></div> Agree, but sometimes that's all you have to get hands on before a purchase.

I'm lucky that I live close to Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Absolutely massive knife store with a bunch of really down to Earth and knowledgeable salesmen. Ordering online doesn't afford one the opportunity to actually handle the knife.

Sure it does. Just deal with a decent retailer and send it back if it doesn't work. Sometimes I think I know what I want, but I'm wrong. I send shit back. They don't seem to care and I can play with the item before I decide.

Granted, I don't send used stuff back, but if it wasn't what I really wanted, I return it and get something else.

And the best part: I don't subsidize some fancy storefront. They just put it back in the warehouse and sell it to someone else.

Re: My knife store rant

I recently visited that store for the first time, all I can say is WOW! People can do their best to describe that place, but hearing about it and going is two way different things.

There's just so many out there that I want to get it right the first time.

That and it's a little hard to return crap when a convoy is required just to go to the post office so I prefer one stop shopping while I'm home.

Oh yeah, it is impressive and one of my favorites. Now if I could just get a local gun shop of the same magnitude as it.....
