Well it took alot of thought on what i would build next and this is what i ended up with. it is almost complete.

Underground skunkworks 911 action with aw mag cut
Benchmark 24" fluted 9tw custom contour R&D brake
Manners t5a in campfire camo w/chassi & atlas rail
Rifle Basix trigger for now (huber or cg jackson later)
    atlas bipod
    currently wearing a bushnell 3-12 ffp mil/mil

    by friday (awaiting delivery
    Tab sling
Schmidt & Bender 4-16x42 in seekins rings

i will do a full range test this weekend short distance and the following weeked will have results out to 1000yds.

I can't deciede on what color to paint the barreled action so your input would be appreciated.

    current pic
I will take more this weekend when it has all options. this one is just so you can help with color.

I agree, but I'd also get lower rings, unless your objective would touch the base. At which point, I'd cut the base shorter. IMO, a low mounted scope leaves less margin for error in the event of a slightly canted rifle during firing.

I like your choice in calibers too.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

scope is off another rifle it is coming off as soon as my seekins lows arrive for my schmidt and bender.

sorry should have noted only interested in earth tones, something that blends into the stock would be preferable. black just absorbs to much heat in the summer.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

i think the metal would look good in a tan close to the one on the stock.

how do you like that action? i got to play with one at mark gordons shop a while back, it was awesome. what load you planning to shoot through it?

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

love the action, love the aw mags. the action is built fantastic and it ejects rounds ridiculously well (love m16 extractors).

I loaded up 162 amax with rl17 starting at 41gr. will do ladder test for velocities on friday very excited.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

    Great looking setup.
Will look forward to the range report.
Go with the tan of the stock for the barreled action.

Can you post the measurement from the rear of the grip to the trigger?

Mine will be Dark Earth Cerakote on the action and barrel over a tan stock. Will post pictures if it is done prior to your decision.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

Damn, this thread is making me drool. I can't wait until my 911 shows up... The pile of parts is here waiting for the action, all these "hey look at my shiny new UGSW rifle build" threads is making me lose sleep at night.

I went 7mm as well, but a little heavier duty. 7mm/300 WSM is in my near future, same stock too...

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

Thats almost the same as the rifle I'm having built right now. Differences are Remmy action and badger brake. I haven't decided what stock I'm going with. I guess Great Minds think alike.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

love the manners. i was going to have custom reamer made but ended up just using the pt&g 7mm08 match reamer and it is perfect.

its showing potential these are only 3 shot groups but i was just shooting to find the limit on pressure it still got me excited. well see if any of them are keepers after i chrono and test out at long range, but still promising.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

i am guessing those number are clicks on a harrells measure and not grains? nice groups. looks like it will do very well. i am personally anxious to see some chrono numbers. i have been thinking of a 7mm-08AI myself to shoot the 162 a-max. what is your oal to the lands?

p.s.- my 9yr old says your subtraction sucks! LOL

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

Bought a 7mm-08 built by GAP about a month a go. I've had some health issues and haven't been able to shoot it. It is my all time favorite cartridge and I'm excited to see what it will do out to 1000. I'll be keeping up with your thread Diggler.
Especially interested in RL17 as that is what makes my 6.5 Creed sing.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

I'm going to have to ask you guys to stop talking about the 7-08 and RE17 and 162 Amax's. If anyone else figgures out what a combo that makes, I wont be able to find bullet and powder to shoot mine.

thanks guys hopefully one of the loads will have good sd with descent velocity.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

i did my 308 in kg flat gray. it is a very good match to the cerakote sniper gray. i really like the color a lot. hard not to like the flat dark earth though.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

For the metal color, I would try to match one of the colors on the stock exactly. This way the rifle blends in with the stock, and there is one less color to cause confusion.

How do you like the the RL 17, as compared to H4350?

well this statement was true out of my 6x47 and 284, it does not seem to be the case with my 7mm08. velocities i tested today honestly sucked max of 2605fps with 43.2gr rl17. very accurate but to slow for me i will be trying h4350 and imr8208 xbr.

I would love to hear some good loads you guys might have.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

What about using RE 15? It is slightly faster, might burn more completely, hence more speed. Accuracy should be similar to the RE 17.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

My best load so far is Lapua 308 brass necked down to 7mm-08, 39.1gr of RL15, Sierra 150MK, OAL was around 2.810. I'll double check when I get home. I just remember the Hornady MicroJust is set to 580.

41.1 RL15 showed promise too but nothing shoots as reliably as the 39.1 load. Tried Varget at least three different times and the best I came up with was 40.5 (probably close to simulating the 39.1 RL15 load) and 42.6. Again, not as good as the RL15 load. I might try some 8208 or 4350 when time and resources permit. Also got some Sierra 168MK's to try recently from the classifieds.

    Re: My new 7mm-08 preview

well load is promising got a 5 shot group that covers with dime and averaged 2750fps with H4350 and 162amax. now i just need to try it out at long range and see how it strings vertically.

    very excited.
