Finally got all my components in to finish putting my rifle together. Slightly modified Remington 700 SS 5R Mil-Spec (.308):
- XLR Evolution Chassis
- 5 rd AICS Magazine
- Seekins Precision 20MOA base
- Seekins Precision X-High 30mm rings
- Phoenix Custom Rifles bolt knob "Phoenix"
- Rifle Basix Trigger set at 2#
- Harris S-BRM Bipod
- Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LRMOA scope

Got to the range today to try it out. Mainly just breaking barrel in, but before I left I wanted to see how it would group. Using 168gr FGMM @ 100 yards (5-shots). I'm sure the groups will shrink some when I start developing loads for it.

Re: My new Remington 700 5R

USMC - I will have to give the 175's a try. Thanks!
SoCoRet - It is a 24" barrel, thanks for the compliment.
JGB - It's hard to tell from that angle but the barrel tube on the chassis doesn't have much clearance to the scope (especially with the factory sightron flip covers. However, with the adjustable comb it's really not an issue.
Xtremegunnr - The stock is nice, very adjustable. Recoil seems to be less than the factory stock, probably due to the heavier weight and better recoil pad. Really good center of gravity on it as well.

I'll take your word for it, but that scope just seems to sit really high. Normally the stainless steel finish bothers me, but the way you have it spec'd out looks pretty nice. If it was mine, I would have a black bolt knob and muzzle break.

This is one of the things holding me back from getting a 5R, i dont dig the stainless, but I like what the OP did, love the black, yours looks great.

Re: My new Remington 700 5R

Very nice! I just got one as well! I replaced the stock with an adjustable HS Precision type. My first groups with FGMM 168's look like yours do. I'm sending mine to a smith to do a bit of fine-tuning action work, duracoat, and barrel threading. I'm planning on working up some handloads for it as well. I'd love to hear what you find works in yours.

Re: My new Remington 700 5R

Thanks all. I agree a black bolt knob and muzzle brake would look pretty mean. I do plan on keeping it stainless as this is my first dedicated long range gun. I intend on shooting the piss out of it and then getting the action trued and rebarreled. At that time I may look into coating the barreled action.

Re: My new Remington 700 5R

Mine really likes 175s as well. These 5rs just shoot ridiculously well especially considering what they cost. I don't shoot at 100 yards very often, but have lots of sub half inch groups with it. I'd have to look at my logbook to get the exact number but the running average 100 yard group is somewhere in the .6s with mine, including every single load development group.

Nice setup! Welcome to the Hide.
