My new Surgeon/W3 switch barrel shorty with PICS

Got my 223/308 switch barrel completed finally. Chamber work , muzzle brakes was done by S&S here in Texas and the fluting and coating was done by Karl Kampfeld.
Stocks a W3 gen 4, Surgeon 591 ,Jewell trigger, atlas qd, Spuhr mount and March 5-40x56 FX illuminated scope.
223 barrel is throated for 80 Bergers and 18" total length and 16.5 roughly minus brake. 1-8 twist Bartlein.
308 barrel is total length of 21.5"
Yes i'm lazy and just leave my table etc int he truck and pull up to change my range distance. This keeps my cooler full of beer close to me as well lol.

I will be shooting this 90% of the time in 223.

Target shown was a 400 yards yesterday in 20mph gusty type wind as you can tell from the one bullet thats off to the side. I was happy to say the least .

Thanks for the great work as always Karl and KRG makes a great chassis for a shorty style gun. Also thanks to Sticks S&S for great work and fast turn around as promissed.

How do you like the March scope?

Barrels are 4.2-4.4 on cheap bathroom scale. I had a CF barrel and it was 3.2 lbs. These are as deep and wide fluted as possible and gun balances perfect.

I Love the March scope , I own two of this model. I can see the 223 holes at 300yrds+ and my 6.5 holes past 400yrds and as you can see I'm not talking with the targets that splatter .

That is a great looking setup, any idea what velocity you are getting with the .223?

2850-2900 and only prob 16.5" of actual barrel . Fps varies depending on weather temp. Currently at 90 degrees right around 2875.

I'm at 6.5 Moa I believe at 400yrds.

Could someone please shed some light on the subject? To make a switch barrel rifle what exactly is needed? I know both barrels would need to be properly headspaced and you would obviously need the correct bolt face etc but how hard is it for a competent smith and can it be done on any action? Also when you want to "switch" barrels how involved of a process is that? I've got a 6.5x47 on a Surgeon 591 that I would LOVE to get a .223 barrel for if something like that would be doeable.

You would simply just need to have a 223 barrel chambered to your action, get a surgeon action wrench and buy a surgeon 223 bolt or PTG 223 bolt for surgeon action. Also would need a barrel vise if you dont have one.

Kubitza123 thanks for the info. Doesn't sound overly difficult to do. I may have to look into that sometime down the road. It'd be fun to have the ability of switching calibers
