I have wanted a nice .22 lever gun and narrowed it down to a Henry golden bot or a Marlin 39A. I found the 39A and ran with it. I ruled out any newer ones since Remington scooped up Marlin and is now re-inventing the wheel with problems. There were several Henry's floating around but few nice 39A's. I found this one that was exactly what I wanted. Its seen some use but still n excellent shape and the barrel and crown are mint. I ordered a Williams receiver (peep) sight and will be set to shoot soon.
There is just something about an all steel / all machined gun that is simple and works well. My only "other" lever gun was a Winchester 9422 and it was a damn nice rifle. I made the mistake of letting it go long ago and hopefully the 39A will perform as well.

Re: My new to me 1951 Marlin 39A

I have an old 39A Mountie that is my favorite gun. Once I year I take it into the mountains with a reciprocating target and shoot the $@!T out of it. I did purchase a Williams FP39TK receiver site for it that I need to mount.

Whenever I walk into a gun store I always look for used Marlin 39s. Never one to be found. Probably a good thing as I don't know if I could resist the impulse to buy. If I saw that one in a store I would have done as you and taken it home with me. Nice find.
