No tacti-cool here. Just a reliable carry gun. Rubber grip for comfort and control, the smooth wood just sucks. Jeweled barrel to help fight rust in fowl weather. New Hammer (on the way) is the only thing for looks but also better quality part. Trigger job to be more consistent. Adjustable trigger (on its way) to take out over travel. And 3 dot sights (coming with the other parts) because the factory sights can't be seen. Will clean up the trigger edges and go for around 4-4 1/2 lbs pull.
Bling is not my thing.

Edit: Army/Navy store local had some used issue Colt mags for $10.00 each. Bought 3. They work and feed great.

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

Nice.. I have a Citadel 1911 which is almost the same exact gun but has the tactical ambi safety and beaver tail grip. Switched out the stock grips with some VZ grips. Has been reliable since day one.

Im thinking about having the gun painted black in either cerakote or duracoat just to help keep the finish from rusting.

Have fun with it!!

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

Those are good reliable guns at a very reasonable price. I've had one for years now with several thousand rounds through it. I did put a new hammer, sights, and trigger on it along with a match barrel bushing that noticeably improved the accuracy.

One thing though. You might want to get a Wolff +10% recoil spring on hand for back up. Mine went bad around the 1200 rounds mark. The slide started beating the frame so hard it would knock it out of battery. Threw a new spring in it and never looked back.

Have fun and shoot the hell out of that thing!!

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

Thats how it should be. No high speed low drag bells and whistles needed.

+1 on the upgrades though. The std combat sights just don't cut it. I dont live in the wet climate you do, so rust isnt an issue. I would put a few hundred practice rounds through it, plus some of the carry ammo that you will use, then go from there before any trigger or spring changes. Not that its a bad thing, but if it isnt needed I wouldnt bother.

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

Nice and simple, fantastic. I have a citadel 1911 (same company Armscor manufactured) and love it. It appears that Armscor 1911s just flat out work and come at a great price point.

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

i've used a few of these for budget customer builds and so far they've held up well. i have noticed a few soft hammers and extractors. i usually change out the hammers, sears, disconnectors and extractors and use known good quality parts to replace those.

the firing pins seem to be fine so far, no evidence of tip breakage or mushrooming or wearing of firing pin hole in the slide. the ones i've handled could have all used a longer barrel link and match bushing for future accuracy upgrades, but they're fine the way they are for self defence accuracy.

I believe Ellett Bros shows a .40 S&W version of the RIA 1911, so i've thought about trying one and punching it out to 10mm to see how long it will last.a Colt Delta Elite magazine fit fine in the .45 RIA frame, so I'm assuming it'll fit in a .40 frame. if I get the chance to do this, I'll take some pictures and do a little write up.

Re: My RIA 1911 came in

I would love one to convert to a 40. And, better inner parts were ordered before i got the pistol. I work part time in the store and have had many field stripped if not further. Kinda knew what was coming and ordered ahead of time.
Just got time to send rounds down the indoor range at the shop. Think I got one of the better. Almost no over-travel in the trigger at all and it breaks very clean. With the slide now polished it works like butter. I do plan on a better hammer as this one is a MIM and going to a safety with the memory bump just for personal preference. Next would be a main spring housing with attached beveled mag well. A new trigger is already coming so that will go in anyhow and sights are already on. Still want to silver solder the front post just for shits and giggles.
