Picked up my sako A7 roughtech range rifle in 308 this afternoon from Sportsmans Warehouse. Seems good so far. All the lugs make contact on the bolt. After buying 700 Sps rifles, its been a while since that has happened. Though my 223 XCR long range's lugs make good contact. Forearm is a little limp, but with the bipod loaded doesn't make contact. I think this going to be a good gun.

Need to get a 20 moa base from Talley at some point, possible upgrade the bolt shroud./floorplate at some point as well.

Only issues is that it seems every imported/lower end firearm has that damn "warning" on the side of the barrel. I hate those labels, they just look bad.

When I ordered it to the store it was 900 plus tax so it ended being 953.00. However I got 106 dollars reimbursed to me, they evidently priced it as the roughtech pro which is 799 plus tax. I told them they were different rifles but they still refunded 106.00 bucks. Hopefully doesn't come back to bite me.

I'm still out on the stock/magazine,. I am really tempted to order a boyds laminate in "wood" coloration and bed it. It is a sako after all lol but for now we'll see. I think, I mean I think I might be able to take a block of aluminum and mill out a new magazine body, the feedlips would be the hard part, that'll be a while.

Any ideas on the boyds stocks? Good or a bad idea?

I’m not sure if these guys are still around but here is the link for bottom metal to accept AI mags for the Sako A7 short action. The link indicates that the site is under maintenanc.

Have a couple A7’s myself in long actions that I haven’t been able to find a bottom metal solution but their shooters for sure. I would argue that the action for these rifles are as smooth as they come and I own an Impact. Here is another link for a bipod Picatinny rail and enjoy. You will want the GGG1246

Not really exciting but finally got out to the range for a bit. 27 degrees out 8-15 mph wind and the first "snow" of the season. Gun worked well, only issue I found was the stock feels like it needs some weight. I've been looking at McMillan stocks for it but may go order a nice walnut stock for it. Any suggestions? I have some black walnut on a property with a diameter of 46 inches. Maybe cut it down before it dies and maybe get it made into a stock. Bad idea good idea?

Here is my a7 .308. I thought about changing the stock, but this is a 5 shot group at 100. One called flyer and a keyhole .223 from the guy next to me.

Sadly, the gentleman from CDI passed away, around August, 2019. His widow posted on FB account... https://www.facebook.com/CDiPrecision/
Has anyone discovered other sources for A7 milling, or, Bottom Metal/stock upgrades?

Great rifle with no aftermarket support. It's a shame. I do know that if there ever is an AI bottom metal made for it, a lot of the factory internal parts would have to be removed from the receiver. Both surfaces that the mag lugs lock into are in the way, though they are removable. At least the rear one is.
