This is the second rifle I have built in Robert's shop. I did a lot more work on this one. 223AI. For the wife.

I'm putting together a write up to come later.

The parts.

My wife designed her stock...I chose the metal color.

it. looks. good. The color of the metal has to grow on me, I'm sure camera doesn't do it justice.

I've seen some other post on Gradous rifle builds, and they look awesome. Sure it's a shooter, your wife will be happy.

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's shop..

that is pretty cool. The colors are really bright and vivid. I would love to try to build one on my own.

That would then be your favorite rifle.

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's sh

This might be a stupid question, but do you bring in all your components to Robert, pay him a fee and he teaches you how to put your components together??? or is this a favor that he does for friends?
I would love to put together my own rifle.

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's sh

Felipe,

My first class, Robert had all the parts. The class fee included all the parts, the class, room and board.

This class, I purchased all my parts...mainly because I already had the right parts.

Call Robert. He can give you all the details.

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's sh

Cool, so there is a class available, wonder if I could put together my own 375CT instead of having someone else do it.......
Ill give him a call,
Thanks

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's sh

I think Gradous is definitely offering one of the most unique and innovative services in the firearms industry right now. Precision shooting is such a technical sport anyway, between exacting build tolerances, shooting fundamentals, and ammo ballistics, that offering technical consumers the ability to build their own rifle is simply brilliant. I'd really like to take advantage of this class some day.

You wouldn't be disappointed. Just be sure to wipe your feet... despite being an old pig farmer, he manages to keep his shop cleaner than an operating room.

I've spent a little time hanging around there, and I have to say I have nothing but the highest respect for him and his work. He is quite possibly the most meticulous person I've ever met, and has been extremely gracious with his time, helping me with little things like adjusting my trigger or checking over an old marlin .22 I've been tinkering with, without hesitation. I hope to be able to do a bit of apprenticing with him once my wife and I move back to Augusta.

Re: My second rifle I built in Robert Gradous's sh

He just finished mine two weeks ago.

When he was ready to thread and chamber the barrel, he called and told me to get to Waynesboro and I could help. As he said, the rifle would mean more to me being there when it was built. He was right. It may not shoot any better with me helping with the barrel, but I damn sure know what went into it and what is involved now.

I know there are many very good rifle builders, and I am not saying Robert is the best, but he damn sure will not compromise on doing it correct. He has a critical eye for details and when it's time to pick your rifle up you can be sure it is right. A big plus is you can shoot it there before you leave. Don't believe him though when he says he can't shoot

.

FWIW, my 308 shoots 44 grains Varget, Hornady case, FGMM LR primer, 175 SMK, 2.810" OAL into .250" for 5 @ 100 yards. Out of 18 5 shot groups so far, 12 have been in the .2's. Worst group has been with M118 Special Ball @ .9 for 5 shots. I have 3 different weights of Lapua Scenars on the way to try them. Have not even tried Re-15 yet. The rifle is accurate!

All metal Ceracoted in Desert Tan
I named it "FSOB" as the barrel is somewhat overweight
