My Win Model70 (7mag) by Phoenix Custom Rifles

So Ive searched for a company to build my 7mag that was given to me YEARS ago by my parents. It sat in my closet for years without being shot. After talking with Keith and Brad, I knew these were the guys to do it. Ive followed their builds here on the hide and couldn't wait for the day to post mine.
Well my day is here, and Im happy to post something that is dear to me and has meaning. And Keith and Brad exceeded all my hopes.

Plus, you don't see too many Winchester Model 70s around.
Specs are: 7mag, 26" Brux barrel, McMillan A5 80%black-20% Olive , Badger thruster brake, CDI metal, 3-ring Phoenix knob, McCann SIRS mount. I kept the factory trigger because it feels great, and they were able to adjust it perfect.

Ill have to find out from Brad or Keith. I told them to decide on the contour since they were doing the build.

I have only built one M70, but then I have used it a lot.

The 7mmRM is my favorite cartridge for long range.

We used a Brux 9T M40 barrel on this build.

Is your rifle a push feed or crf? Curious because I have a model 70 black shadow in 7 mag my parents gave me and I am looking for a nice rifle to learn lr shooting and had not given it much thought since all I have seen are savage and remingtons. Are there any down sides to using the win action vs Remington or savage other than aftermarket support?

I really like the win model 70 actions. In so many ways they are so great and durable. Can't believe they are not more popular. Congrats that's an awesome rifle in a great caliber.

It's either standard pushfeed or their CRPF, no pictures of boltface, but judging by the before picture it could be in the CRPF era. Just got my new Model 70 that will turn into something real similar to madppcs's that is a sweet looking rig. Too bad everything's so far out to order.

Its a pusher. It doesn't have that external claw that a CRF does. (Unless Im mistaken). Ill post some pics of the boltface soon.

Looks great! Lately, few Mod70 went into different custom shops and they came out looking bad ass. Another SH member had a similar story (his father's Mod70); it came out looking amazing.
These rifles were all given a second life, more accurate than ever; got to love that.

I had a 300wm built on a classic action and my FIL has a Snyder built 300 on the push feed action. That's a great lookin rifle but the muzzle break just screams half assed..Dogknot muzzle breaks are a thing of the past these days.

I dunno if I would use another win 70 for a build over a rem 700 but there's just something sweet about the classic actions. I would akin that muzzle device to flipping over a 4,000 custom rem clone rifle and finding a factory rem floor plate.. (you would be amazed at how offer I have seen custom guns with this)

LMAO! Dogknot muzzle brake? Please explain this?

Ha yeah do tell... Only time I've used "dogknot" to describe a rifle is the barrel contour of a pre-64 that's got the hump for the open sight, and even then the term is used positively ha ha

Dogknots don't just stay in the middle.... Sometimes they get to the end. Either way its a beautiful rifle but it would be hard to accept the MB done in that fashion when completely blended MB's are easy to do and look 100x better....

Looks are whatever in this game. If it was your choice for that then whatever but if you asked for a MB and thats what you received......

I like it, I also have a old featherweight sitting in my closet, might have to give these guys a call. I like the Win action better than the Savage or Remmys I own, much smoother, the 06 shoots under MOA as it sits, it is just so light it kicks like two mules.

Good to see the M70 in a thread. I have mine in for accurizing, bedding, and rebarreling to a brux. Eventually may switch to a manners elite hunter as well

Thats a sweet winny,I have been thinking of doing the same thing. My Dad gave me his 1969 300 win M70. would love to make it a custom hunting rifle
