Has anyone seen or owned one of these cases? I found it for $72 and didn't know if it was worth the money. I'm not too rough on my bag, but at the same time I don't want it to fall apart. Oh yeah, did I mention I am cheap. Can't afford "Eagle" type stuff.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I appreciate your thoughts about NcStar, but I was looking for a real field-tested opinion. I know they make some cheap plastic "gun" parts and sights.
I also looked at Midway's stuff, but I was looking for a 2-n-1 rifle case/shooting mat. I have a Blackhawk Striker bag now for 1 rifle and am looking to purchase a new case for another. These NcStar seem to be made similar to the Galati Deluxe Shooters Mat, but little more than a third of the price.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

i have ncstar drag bag that i put 2 rifles in and take to the range...i found it cheap online but i must say it has worked well for me...i dont beat the hell out of it but as a range bag its not bad...if your going to be tough and beat the crap out your bag i would buy another brand...

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Look, if you are trying to defend your purchase, thats one thing. But nothing is going to change the fact that NcStar is POS Chicom JUNK! If you havent already bought it, dont! Thats just some friendly advice, advice that I never got when I first started in guns and spent countless $$$ on Chicom junk like NcStar.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

He doesnt have to buy "top shelf" its just that NcStar is nothing better than junk that I wouldnt take free let alone pay money for. There are a lot of mid grade gear that perform well enough to deserve my money.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Just received bag from UPS. Opened up box to find a well made product. It has more features than my Blackhawk Stalker that's for sure. I don't know where to start. The exterior hardware (buckles, zipper, straps, stitching) seem to be of good quality. The drag and shoulder straps have seperate pockets with velcro closures to store them when not in use. The interior is laid out well there is a removable cartridge holder on the right flap (when laying down). To your left would be a large pocket fo rmisc. items but also has clear pocket to hold a data card/sheet. There is a sleeve to hold your cleaning rod. A "muzzle pocket" and bungee system to secure your rifle. I know some of you high rollers have all the features in your Eagle, Tab Gear, Galati, etc. bags, but sometimes us tight-wads can't spend all that dough. This seems to be a good less expensive bag.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

You should post a follow up after you've hauled it to the range 20 times or so. That's when you know how well it will probably hold up for you.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Yes, please report back, as nothing said to this point is relevant to your original question. You seem to be in a unique position to answer this question over the next few months.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I was able to pick up one of these combo mats/case off a prize table last weekend... Have only used it once but seems like a quality piece of gear that will work for what I do... haul my rig in my truck to wherever I'm shooting and flop it out in the dirt and lay ontop of it... Time will tell though!

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Ive had one for a few months now. Used it for a couple of trips to the ranch on hunting trips and a dozen or so trips to the range. Ive used it as a case and a mat. It has held up very well. I will admit that I take care of my stuff and I'm not really hard on gear but it works well for me.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

So far I havent heard ANY complaints about the NCStar bag/ mat from ANYONE who has actually used one. And I dont pay attention to those who fervently hate something without even having seen it let alone use it.

Ive been looking for a while and when I 1st found the NCStar online I didnt even give it a 2nd glance because of the name. Ive never seen anything by NCStar worth using let alone owning. But the more ive searched the more good reviews I see about this bag/mat so I decided to take a 2nd look. So far everyone likes it, some love it, no one hates it (that has actually used it
smile.gif
).
Every once in a while some cheapo company will have a production glitch and turn out something worth having.

I was also looking at the Midway pro shooting mat but wanted a bag combo. I think I might give this NCStar a try. Cut the name tag off so Im not embarassed to carry it around and see how it does. Worst case I get a different shooting mat and use this for a gun case / backup /loaner mat. Who knows, I may even stitch the name tag back on if I like it enough.

A folow up review fron D Constance would be nice too.

one small review I found:
5.0 out of 5 stars- very high quality for the money,
Ncstar is not a company that is known for quality. This bag is the exception to the rule. It is very well made. It has features that only much higher bags have. Very happy with purchase.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

If it says Ncstar, it means you by twice.

NCSTAR =
Nothing
Can
Stay
Together
After
Range

Save your money and buy better or saving on shipping and buy two at least.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Deputy dawg- ever used the ncstar mat?? no? didnt think so. ever even seen one in person? no?

Once you have let us know what you thought.
I'm betting you might not feel about the case/mat the same way everyone ive ever met feels about their scopes.

Taseal- you sure about that? I wouldn trust an NCstar scope on an airsoft rifle. I have too much respect for my .22 for their scopes. I had a dream once that I put an NCstar scope on my 10-22 and it chased me around the house trying to kill me. Luckily for me the scope fell apart before too long the my 10-22 settled down.

Or where you just repeating the NCStar advertising slogan?

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I'd give the NCstar bag a shot, but I'd have to cut the logo off or I couldn't live with myself. My friend just got a Condor case for $80 and it seems to be pretty well made. The MidwayUSA/C.Allen bags are worthless/useless, the pockets velcro and seams were coming apart after 1 range trip.

(All the case does is hold a rifle while traveling from point A to point B, if it breaks doing that then it failed its purpose)

Granted you get what you pay for, but I have a hard time parting with the same amount of cash on a rifle case that I spent on the rifle itself.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Rocca,
I've been carrying this bag for exactly a year now. Still COMPLETELY happy with it. The only spot that shows any wear is the rubber/plastic covering on the inside of bag where my bipod sits when closed. You can't really help that. Other guys on our team have Eagle bags that are doing the same thing. All straps, buckles, and stitching are in 100% condition.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

Ok, I forgot the one criteria for the Opinion YOU asked. Did anyone field it? Sorry, I read about your cheapness but missed that line. I am glad to say I have not fielded that. I prefer not to buy shit. I think you are going to have a hard time finding people here who carry that. I let their scopes speak for their entire line of products. Apparently inspector 6 is asleep at the wheel and let's anything leave the factory. It should be great for your Savage 22 mag with Tasco scope. Enjoy and Cheers.

PS Reason I have not seen in person, I don't know anyone that is in that dire need of a bag. I mean sure I would use it if it's all I had and the grocery store was closed. Paper or Plastic?

J, my buddy has one of these and they are bulit very well. Infact looks similar to my Tacops bag. I also then looked up NCstar and saw what looks to be the same bag as midway but comes in more patterns like ACU for example.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I guess I could add that within this last year, this bag has been to two competitions, two sniper courses, at least three 12hr training days per month, and several SWAT deployments. In other words, it hasn't had "casual range day" duties. The rest of the work days it's riding in my Crown Vic right along with me.

Again, Thanks. Nice to hear reviews based on fact and experience.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

The FACT is that is is not made here. It is made by people that make pennies an hour, who may have never even seen a rifle, let alone shoot one and understand:

1.) Why you need it
2.) What it is your trying to accomplish with it
3.) Owned prior garbage like this, and where the most common areas of failure will be
4.) Understand what needs changing to make it more usable
5.) A number you can call and talk with the folks who make/design it with actual shooter input.

Who do you call when your POS NC-Star bag falls apart? Midway? Sure, they can send you another. Why? Because like Counter Sniper, NC-Star Scopes, etc. etc. they are made so cheap and sold so over marked up, they can send you a dozen of them before they loose a penny on the deal.

The fact that people will purchase these products is one thing, but to stand on your soap box and defend it is another.

There are plenty of items like this that you are looking for made right here in the USA.....well, come to think of it there is not...mostly because of people wanting a save a couple bucks to buy junk made off shore.

Tactical Tailor makes bags, and shooting mats, made in WA, TAB makes a fine shooting mat, made in TX, there are lots of little companies making stuff right here, with names, states and counties and folks running sewing machines with names that you can pronounce, or at least that a friend can read to you.

Why not purchase USA made products, supporting this country rather than that garbage that Midway and Cheaper than Dirt hock? Midway bags, and Mats, best deal going....shit..if your looking to accomplish what? Strengthening the Chinese stranglehold on our economy?

Your American, buy American.

I am not saying that I don't purchase off-shore stuff, its impossible not to, but when you can buy American, you should, and on something that is American as carrying your rifles around or patrolling your communities streets, in your Crown Vic, not a Hyundai, it should be made here, IMO.

This is why I get worked up:

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

You missed the point. He SAID he is cheap. This guy is sold on shit. Almost the entire thread bashes NcStar, but he choses to go after me because I come up with something witty (IMHO) about NcStar. I have some doubts, a GAP rifle in an NcStar bag. That's like putting e85 in a porsche. Sure it might work but why bother.

Check out the link in hasguns post. I have heard good stuff about them. Plus he has one of the best reasons to something else. Also, try contacting Shay.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. And thanks also to those who actully have experience with the product, good or bad. Thats what we are here to find. Biased slander based on where a product is made or other products made be that manufacturer having no real experience with the product is pointless.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

There's nothing wrong with cheap. As long as it full fills your purpose and you always remember what you paid for it.And remember you can replace it 4 times for what a TacOps drag bag cost.

All these web companies will take this stuff back. So if it comes and is really junk, send it back.

Shipping cost a lot less than paying for some thing you don't want.

I'm waiting for my brother to tell me what color he wants to order us 2 of them.

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I had a free gift certificate and ordered one about 5 months ago, and it has worked out pretty well so far. I haven't had any problems with it, and holds my rifle pretty darn well. I have taken it to ever swat practice and several call outs, and must say that I'm pretty impressed for such a sucky company!

Re: NcStar Rifle Case / Shooting Mat

I have been using tins case for a few months now and I have been more than pleased with it for the money. It has made several trips from the house, to the truck, to the ranger, and then to the range and back. This is on average dam near a daily occurrence. one of the buckles has broke due to being stepped on but other than that its GTG.

Rather an unfortunate choice of example; given that the Porsche is foreign and the e85 made in the US. But we get you point; an expensive brand is more important than function. I saw this a lot when dealing with delinquent youth, they just had to pay $150 bucks for a pair of shoes, even if they weren't particularly good shoes; because it really wasn't about the shoe, it was about the money.

Voodoo Deluxe for 135.00 delivered.

Well, heres an update. After a ton of searching I found a great deal at Barre Army/Navy Store Voodoo Deluxe bag/Mat for $129.00.

http://www.vtarmynavy.com

Even Cheaper than dirt sells them 149.00. I love it.

Great workmanship. NO BUCKLE to clamp around the grip area that digs into your hip when lying on it. The velcro on this is nice and flat. And its hard to see but theres a pouch just infront of the bipod in the bottom pic that hold 3 stakes to stake down the front tarp using the eyelets.
I would recomend this to anyone.

Re: Voodoo Deluxe for 135.00 delivered.

i only buy NcStar merchandise....people envy me when they see me struttin up to the shootin line!!! My car had a I Love NcStar sticker on the back and I get waved at all the time....

I DO have experience with this one... used my VooDoo for casual carry to the range and back... never even laid down on it!! Lasted 3 trips before the zippers started not working so well and the stitching started unraveling. Then the fabric itself started snagging and tearing.

I did like the layout of this bag, but the quality is crap. Just gave it to a kid at the range just yesterday to help him as he starts out.

Back to Natchez showing in stock right now...
Eagle Shooting Mat in Khaki - $69.95 http://www.natchezss.com/brand.cfm?conte...prodTitle=Eagle Shooting Mat Khaki
Eagle HSRC in Black - $149.95 http://www.natchezss.com/brand.cfm?conte...prodTitle=Eagle Hybrid Sniper Rifle Case Black

Chances may be that the Mat is Dominican (mine wasn't), but every HSRC I have heard about (including the 2 I bought) were Made in USA. You can't touch the HSRC for function and toughness AND at $150 it is a steal!
