Re: Near rings

I have one of his Alpha Mounts on a rifle now and another on the way for my impending .338 Norma mag. Also have had a Near base installed on my sako 75. There the best IMHO

Re: Near rings

I have 3 sets of rings/bases from Near Mfg. His machine work is flawless!! In my opinion, his rings are THE best in the buisness. They're not cheap, but you get what you pay for!!!

Here's a Near Mfg base/ring set-up on my custom .300 Win Mag:

Re: Near rings

I found a Near 10 MOA base for my new Savage last week in Cabela's bargin cave. The price was marked $47,which was'nt bad but I went to the salesperson and asked if they could do any better. She came back after some computer work and said "how's $23 sound?" I replied "well, I guess if that's the best you can do, I'll take it"

All of Near's products are top notch.

does he use that material on all his stuff or do you specify that ?

Re: Near rings

As above - highest quality, super nice guy to deal with. I have a few sets of his rings and bases and couldn't be happier. You can throw away your lapping bar - they are absolutely perfect. I just mounted a Premier 5-25 in his Alpha mount on my .375CT - can't wait to test it out.

when speaking with him and asked him for something solid he told me he made some with a titanium alloy and said compared to steel or stainless when hit hard whit a hammer this alloy ring does not crush like the steel does

Re: Near rings

I think he calls them Ultra-Alloy rings. I just mounted a set on my custom 30-06. They are nice & light, and machined as perfectly as his stainless rings!!

Re: Near rings

pc3,

Thanks!! The rifle was built for me by American Precision Arms(Patriot Arms). Jered & Dave are good people and build a hell of a rifle!!!

Here is the "recipe":

-Rem 700 action trued and squared, heavy spiral fluting on bolt, APA bolt knob installed, APA oversized recoil lug

-Rock Creek barrel, #3 contour, 24" long, 1-11.25 twist

-McMillan Sako Hunter stock, standard fill weight, Woodland camo, pillar/skim bedded, decelerator pad

-Old Rem 700 trigger tuned to 2.5#

-Rem 700 BDL bottom metal

-Near Mfg 10 MOA base w/ Near Mfg Ultra Alloy rings

-All metal cerakoted matte black

-Schmidt&Bender Zenith 1.5-6X42mm scope

The rifle is light & balances perfectly. It shoots 1/2" - 3/4" groups all day with factory ammo.
