Hunting & Fishing Neck shot, how???

I can’t remember the last time I shot a deer anywhere other than the neck. I have a 10 year old, and every deer he has killed has been in the neck. He has kilted them out to 300 yards. Two reasons for a neck shot. One, you don’t have to look for them. Two, you don’t have to look for them. Really two is, you miss or they will be ok. There is no certain spot, I always tell him, to hit them in the white patch. He believes that is where you shoot a whitetail. They collapse and fall right there, the end. They are dead before they hit the ground. That is how my dad taught me to shoot them when I was a kid. He didn’t want to look for them either. If I don’t have a good neck shot, I don’t shoot. I have killed hundreds of deer, and never had to look for one I shot.

Shoot em in the face and preserve that neck meat.

I’ve posted this a couple times already. Can’t resist.

Right where it hits the body, 1/3 of the way down. I’ve seen and killed more deer killed this way +headshots with a 222/223 than anything else.

If you miss by more than a few inches up or down, they will usually drop and get back up. Had to do a Texas heart shot at ~20y because I did that once.

I think it’s a great shot with a 130gr soft points in a 270 or similar that fragments a lot.

Shoulda Texas heart shot that SOB the first time around and he wouldn't have gotten back up! HAHA!
