I know that it is standard procedure to full length resize brass used in a semi-auto, but has anyone tried actually firing neck sized brass in their gas gun? It seems like there would not be much issue with feeding, especially in a 308 gas gun, or with extraction given how positive it is compared to bolt actions. Any thoughts?

Re: Neck sizing

It has more to do with putting the shoulder back into place and shrinking the brass down to cycle smoothly through a semi-auto. Neck-sizing doesn't accomplish this.

The snug fit you want in a bolt gun isn't beneficial here.

+1... That pretty much nailed it on the head. Remember the gas gun just has the inertia of the bolt and strength of the spring to push the bolt back into the battery position. A bolt in your hand is slowly worked when compared to the semi-auto. It also allows time for the round to center in the feed ramp and chamber. Gravity does have it uses.
