Hi

This may be a stupid question but can anyone tell me the minimum safe neck wall thickness for the .338 Lapua Magnum cases. Iv got some once fired and i want to clean them up but make them concentric. These cases are Lapua but it seems the necks are all over the place in thickness before i start.

Many thanks in advance

Re: Neck thickness .338 Lapua Magnum

can you tell us what all over the place means ( in numerical form)

whats your neck thickness now ?

i have turned my BMG cases from .020 to .015 and they have not spilt after more then 5-7 firings. I remmeber i turned my .30 cases from .015 down to .010 , they started cracking , so i turn them down to .012.

how much are you turning your down ?

IMO, if your not using a tight neck chamber , you wont experince any truly significant results from neck turning.

I am almost ordering one 338 LM, but as this is all new to me, I would like to know more details.

So ,your neck diameter with bullet seated is aprox. .368-.369. But i am curious to know at what kind or reamer are be used to make the chamber. Tight neck, match, standard

What is the neck measurements after firing?

Hi,

I clean up my necks. Running standard TRG chamber.

Loaded round is .364-.365 and resize with .363 bushing.

From the math, this makes neck about 13-14 thou.
