How does this process work...
I'm curious how they neck down the 300wsm to 7wsm....or 270wsm to a 6.5wsm

are these custom dies or what?

I'm assuming the dies are of the parent(300wsm) round than with a series of smaller neck bushings to get desired neck dimension...but not sure...how many thousands at a time to you decrease at a time?

Re: Necking up or Necking down

I neck down Winchester 7-08 down to 260Rem with a Forster FL die with Expander installed, after first firing I use a Redding Type S FL die with .290 bushing and the floating carbide expander ball which barely touches, I anneal every 4-5 firings.

Re: Necking up or Necking down

I also neck up Winchester 243 to 260Rem with a neck turning expander mandrel, then neck turn it to remove the part of the shoulder which is now neck to prevent donuts, Win 243 and 7-08 are now 260Rem and are intermixed with no problems what so ever, I have some with 25 reloads, primer pockets last for ever.

Re: Necking up or Necking down

I recommend sizing down with a non bushing die because the entire neck is sized, brass gets sized with a .289-.290, I don't neck turn the entire neck, maybe 50% hitting the high spots and 1/32 into the shoulder to remove the part of the shoulder that has become neck on .243 brass, NT is .0015-.002
