Need a buttstock for a Rock River LAR-8

I previously installed a RRA collapsible CAR stock and that left the bolt release inoperable due to the action being shortened, although RRA claims it to work. I was thinking a Magpul PRS and shortening the cheek piece to clear the charging handle. Anyone have experience with these?

Also,

Suggestions on heatsinks? Anyone out there making them for a 308 aside from JP Rifles?

Piston systems? AR15s have kits now and according to my smith there are some out there for 308s, but considering the platform is not standardized this may incur some problems.

Well...there are several issues here:

1) If you plan to install the PRS, you can go the cut-down route on the cheek riser, or you can install a 1" (or 5/8") buttstock extender so that you don't have to hack up a $250 stock. Just slide it onto the receiver extension first, then install the extended spacer on the end of your A2 receiver extension, then slide your PRS on and tighten down...no big deal:

2) My understanding with the RRA 308 and collapsible stocks is that they require a custom, shorter buffer to operate properly. Slash (of Heavy Buffers) makes one that is purpose-built to operate on the LAR-8 with a collapsible stock running the standard AR-15 Carbine receiver extension and a modified AR-10 recoil spring. Here is a link to Slash's website and the RRA buffers he makes if you are still interested in running a collapsible stock on yours:

As for heat sinks...nope...JP is it to the best of my knowledge. You'll need to check with JP Ent before you order one, because I don't know that they'll work properly with your RRA.

Finally, nobody is making a piston conversion kit for any AR-10/308 rifle at this time although several companies are working on the design including Adams Arms, CMMG, Osprey Defense and others. Even when they are finalized, you may have trouble with finding one to work with your RRA because of the proprietary specs that RRA chose to go with on this design. As you have already found out the hard way...parts/accessories compatibility with these rifles is a real PITA!

Good luck!!

I have a prs and trimmed 1/4 inch off the riser . it works pretty good and ofcourse I didnt think about the extention until after I trimmed mine and read about it some where else . to be honest it is a nice stock but just didnt suit my needs so I took it off and put the a2 stock back on along with the original hand guards.

Uh...yes, they do...based solely on the need for the shorter cheek riser to accommodate the longer CH of the AR-10/LR-308 rifles.

Correct.

My AR10 has a Maggy PRS on it.
