I have been looking into getting a 22 pistol for a while. I wish there was a conversion kit for the XDm. But I am not going to wait any longer for one that might not come. I have looked at the P22 but have heard and seen to many pictures of them blowing. The Mosquito was my next choice but hearing to many bad reviews there also.

Any suggestions?

I don't like the feel of the Ruger semi and looks like the browning has the same ergonomics.

I have one. Shoots great. feels great, good trigger, safetey and slide release are easily used.
My biggest problem is you need tools to disassemble. I stripped the bolts on mine trying to take it apart for the first time. So its never been take a part and cleaned thoroughly. I just bore snake it and go on. its prob got 2000+ rounds through it over the course of several years. works like a charm. CCI minimags eat up wonderfully. Mine does not cycle the wolf match ammo though. SO it can be easliy screwed up trying to take it apart. But i give browning points for having a pistol thats good enough to go thousands of rounds without a proper cleaning and still function without a hicup.

More zinc junk.
Buy American, Ruger, Buckmark

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Yeah just found out that Walther makes the MP22. So its a P22 just with a M on the front. Maybe I'll go with a Ruger revolver.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Buckmark or Ruger.

I have both and give the edge to the buckmark. Flip the sear spring around and remove the magazine safety and you have a sweet trigger (Buckmark). I had a P22 and it never missed a beat but it an economy gun at best. The Ruger or Browning you will never wear it out and it fits an adult hand.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Ruger does make a great 22 pistol. Nearly impossible to break them. Have a MK II w/bull barrel and it is a shooter regardless if it is clean or dirty. The one significant drawback is that it is an absolute bear to take apart and put back together. As such, mine spends more time dirty than clean. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Find a used Ruger MK II or III and put a Tactical Solutions upper on it. Mine runs great and is threaded for my AAC supppressor. Very accurate and light weight, even with the can attached. Runs with subsonic 22LR.

A quiet one....
(I gave the P22 adapter away here last year)

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Ruger makes the 22/45 with a threaded barrel now - its ready to plug and play ... I personally have a TAC SOL PAC-LITE on a Ruger 22/45 frame . It is very light ang quiet , especially with an SWR Warlock ...

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Keep in mind that the Ruger MkII pistols have 2 different grip frame angles. The standard MkII and the 22/45. If you don't like one you might like the other.

I use a MkII for a variety of match shooting. It is always reliable and accurate. There are several shooters in my club's matches using S&W 41s and Brownings. We always hear "alibi" from them a few times in each match. The only alibi I have had in several years of shooting came from a dud round.

The MkII is not hard to take apart or reassemble once you do it a couple of times and have a couple of simple tools. I have a stainless pic/probe that has a 90* angle on one end to help grab the hammer strut, and a wooden hammer handle to help align the upper and frame.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

CZ Kadet is my favorite .22, the S&W M-41.
Ruger and Buckmark are still the price are the winners.

WaltherP-22, Sig Mosquito,ATI 1911, GSG 19211, M-22, ALL zinc.
They break. If you have a gun, OK. It it a only gun, guy a real guy.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

It's true that the ATI's GSG 1911 has a zinc alloy frame, which is more prone to cracking than traditional steel or aluminum, but it is one of the most reliable and bang-for-your-buck .22 pistols out there right now imho. It will serve you well...until it breaks...which only time will tell how durable these pistols turn out to be. So far, they have a surprisingly good track record.

Yep. My MK III 22/45 5.5" bull has so many rounds that I can't even count.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

GSG 1911 has a shitty trigger.

M&P 22 looks promising, but is new.

Walther and Sig produce jammomatics.

The Tactical Solutions conversion for 1911 is expensive, but shoots great, even with cheap ammo.

Personally, my Ruger is so reliable that I won't own anything that won't shoot cheap ammo.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Ruger or Browning as everyone has already said would be the most reliable setups out there. I had the pleasure of shooting the GSG 1911 a couple of weeks back and it shot just about everything you can throw at it suppressed and never once had a problem. We probably went through 300 rounds in less then 20 minutes through one. For the feel of a full size gun, it would be hard to beat and I think the lower will take standard 1911 parts as well.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Check out the S&W 422 or 622. 4" and 6" versions of the same pistol. Fits a hand really well, controls are all in natural spots, they shoot very well, and are small and light to boot. The new 22A .22 pistol is fat and ugly compared to the 422/622. They can be picked up pretty cheap too and I've never had a single problem with mine in over 20,000 rounds.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

I might just go with a tried and true Ruger revolver. I really don't want a full size pistol in 22 so maybe a bearcat. Will have to settle a little on the sights but it should last a life time.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Which 22 revolver comes with a 22 mag cylinder as well? That is a pretty neat touch, believe its a Ruger.

If you get a revolver, make sure you get one that holds 8-10 rounds!

I have a SW 22A, which works, but is a superduper cheapie and I wouldn't recommend it.

The SW41 is sweet - but is priced to match.

Not sure how you feel about EAA witness' (CZ75 clones, Tanfolio), but you can get a 22 top end for any of their pistols, and I think you're out the door for $500 for a complete .45/10mm pistol plus a 22 top end. They are supposed to be quite reliable. Just another thought.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

I did see an article on a EAA witness and it looked sweet. The options. The bearcat does not come with a 22mag cylinder. Would have to get it made/make one.

Or see if I can find a witness to test fire.

Re: Need a good .22 pistol

Gill...if you are looking for a small resolver...REALLY consider one of the Smith & Wesson .22-.32 Kit guns. Quite accurate, and dumping a cylinder of fired cases is much easier that one at a time with the small Bearcat. Not made any more, I understand, but most gunshows will have one or more. JMHO
