If you are going to be shooting to 1000 yds you don't want to use the 168 A-max. The 178 A-max, 175 Sierra, or 155 Scenar would be better for what you are trying to do. If the 155 Scenar is available in your locale, that might be your option.

Hey Killcan, welcome

I know for a fact you can buy lapua scenar 155's down here in australia.

If i were you, I would try using AR2208 powder. Start off at 44 grains and work your way up in small increments.

Perhaps try 44, 44.5, 45, 45.5, 46, 46.5, 47

47 Gr of AR2208 should be your max load, and will end up being a compressed load.

For obvious safety reason start at 44grains as a minimum and look for pressure signs as you work your way up.

Also, if your going to the effort of using Lapua 155's try some Lapua brass as well... some of the best stuff out there.

Your lookin at roughly $85 for 100 brass lapua .308 cases, and about $55 for 100 projectiles.

The SPS tac 20inch has a 1 in 12" twist and would not recommend shooting the heavier projectiles out of it. It really needs a 10twist to be effecient enough to stabilize heavier weights. Thats not to say you cant shoot them but youll probably be more happy with a 155 or 168 with that length in and twist barrel. With that said I do own the same rifle and load 168 amaxes exclusively in mine.

168s are awesome. 175smks work for me. I have the sps-v so not sure if the extra 6 inches is whats helping or not.

Yes and no. If the barrel is at least 24" so it will make 2 complete revolutions the 12twist will work. For a 20" barrel it is ideal to have a 10twist so the projectile can make at least 2 revolutions stabilizing the heavier weight bullets. Like I said you can shoot the heavier weights but its not recommended. In shorter barrels it takes a little more speed to stabilize a heavier projectile for the performance to be maximized.

I use 42gr of 4064 in nosler case sierra168's fed 210m primers and average 2525fps (chrono'd with rifle/ammo at a temp of 32deg F). from a GAP crusader with 20" (ammo .010 off) bartlien barrel 1x11twst. according to my sierra software that velocity should get you to 1000 (but thats the software)
