Ok guys, I'm looking for a temporary scope. Have about $150.00. Hoping to get something with the tactical style turret. so I can dial in for a distance and know where the scope is from zero. hoping to get a 3-12 or 4-16 power. somewhere in that rang.

I know the price rang sucks, but was hoping someone had something decent. going on a 7.62x54.

I know Barska and some other companies make scopes in this range. Any good?

You are not going to get anything decent for that price. However the Mueller APT should be serviceable. If you weren't looking foe exposed turrets, I would recommend the discontinued weaver nitrex scopes available from natchezss. They are essentially weaver grand slams for around 100 bucks.

Is it going on a Mosin or a Dragonov? If you can't save up to $300 for a useable longer-term scope, maybe look at the Redfield battlezone moa/moa 3-9x42. At least it's covered with the Leupold lifetime warranty. Redfield 3-9x42 Battlezone Rifle Scope

I think they come with a .308 bdc turret too, which may be fairly close to 7.62x54 ball trajectory out to 500 or so...

I don't know of any exposed turret scope available for $150, and if there was one, I doubt you'd want it, especially on a hard kicking russian battle rifle.

Yea, waiting an extra couple weeks and spending a little more is probably the best beat. I have a Nikon on my 700 and love it.

And it is going on a Mosin. After doing some research Iv come across some guys making these guns very nice shooting guns. I'm going to change the stock, trigger , shorten the barrel, add scope mount, drop bolt handle a float the barrel. I saw a guy shooting a quarter qt 200 with some hand loads. Figured for the total cos into it( less then 400 before scope) what could it hurt.

I loves me some Mosins. They are fine battle rifles with tons of history and are fun to dabble with. I would just caution you a little as far as expectations of accuracy. I've seen a few guys that has produced some nice groups after a lot of mods and handloading, and hand loads are the only way to get any repeatability out of them. The factory corrosive ball is loaded to really loose standards, at least the 880 rnds that I have are.

With some effort and money, I think a realistic consistent 2.5 moa could be achieved. I mean consistent groups, not just a few 1 inchers here and there. By comparison, the cheapest modern bolt action available is made to probably more than twice the manufacturing tolerances. An off the shelf Stevens 200 for $275 will typically shoot circles around even the beautiful Finnish M39's.
I'd still take a M39 any day, I'd cherish it and pass it on to my grandkids someday. Our shooting sport isn't only about accuracy, it's about what is fun.

All that said though, I love me some Mosins, especially the ones with Sako on them : )
Have fun wih the project.

I was going to buy the 700 from dicks sporting goods and true and rebarrel it, but I just don't feel like spending the money right now. in total to build the 700 I was going to it would have cost about 1200 or more not including glass.

I love the gun to and plan to buy more. but with a rock solid mount and bolt along with some other mods, I have seen some impressive accuracy. if nothing else it will be a nice hunting gun. perfectly capable of getting a dear or coyote at 200 yards. Plus they are fun to shoot.
