i bought some brass a while back. its a mixed batch. its all once fired and crimped primer. on some, the headstamp is LC & the year. others have TW and the year. then there is some with WRA stamps as well, all with 2 digit years. there are a few LC NM that i know is lake city but is that NM national match? and then there is the 600 good rounds that say LC and MATCH that i got, once fired and not crimped. but i dont know the history on the TW, WRA and just plain LC. whats it worth? was it match or just general ammo for combat issue? any help?

finally found a guide i didnt have to pay for so i know winchester repeating arms and twin cities, but nothing about worth

this helped http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes.htm

Winchester Repeating Arms
Twin Cities Ordinance

the crimped LC is milsurp lake city of the year shown. This is your non-match standard issue.

NM is national match

LC match is lake city match brass. Match brass isnt crimped.

This is as far as my knowledge can take you, but LC is excelent brass. it's thick so you may need to reduce charges by a grain or two because of the lesser capacity.

Cant help you on the other stuff

well i was gonna sell the 600rnds of WRA, TW and LC stuff off and keep just the 600 rnds of match. but then i saw that 308 keychains were going for $6 on ebay. so i may have a new hobby.

None of what you describe is what I would consider 'bad' brass; it was standard Ball or Tracer ammo at the beginning of its life. I would use it for plinking or short-range practice ammo, and save the Match brass for long range.

Being military brass, the NM and Match brass is still a far cry from being the equivalent of Lapua, Norma, or even Remington brass. The primary difference between Match brass and normal Ball brass is the lack of a crimped primer on the Match brass - that's it.

Actually there is a difference between ball brass and match. Ball brass allows for more neck wall variation and match allows for like .005" variation.
Ball brass can vary neck wall thickness to a wide degree but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be that far out.
With the way brass is now I would sit on it all and save the match for long range. I turn my necks to .013".

hummer when you say "turn" your necks, you dont meant trim do you? or are you talking about a different process i am not familiar with?

Here's Sinclair's selection of neck turning tools:

http://www.sinclairintl.com/prod_detail_list/Neck-Turning-Tools

Neck turning involves cutting excess brass off the outside diameter of the case neck, making the thickness more uniform. This is done to insure that the bullet is centered in the chamber, more or less. Many custom 'tight-neck' chambers require this extra step.

I personally prefer the K&M neck turning tool, but they all work.
