I am putting together a lightweight AR in .308 for hunting that I want to also use as a target rifle out to 600 yds. I currently have a NF NXS 5.5-22x50 with NP-R2 reticle on my bolt-action and I really love it. So I was considering the 2.5-10x32 with same reticle and MOA turrets. Does anyone have any experience with this scope? Or should I be looking in another direction? Scope of choice should meet the following criteria:

1. lower magnification that 15x
2. lightweight (under 20 oz.)
3. built like a shit brick-house
4. matching turrets/ reticle (MOA/MOA-MIL/MIL)
5. No BDC-because I reload, I do not have much luck with these
6. Price ceiling of $1600.00

Now for some reco's.

Thanks in advance....

You would be well served by the SWFA SS 3-9X42. I own two and use them out to 800 yards. One is on a LMT MWS the other on a M1A NM. I have a combined round coun of over 3000 rounds on these scopes with no problems. They have a lifetime warranty and will leave change in your pocket.

Hows about a IOR 2-12x36 spartan? Its pretty much perfect for what you want, illuminated MP8 reticle and matching turrents. It does have a 35mm tube though, which can be a plus or a negative, it comes with its own rings though, so you should be alright. Also it weighs 24 ounces, and I dont know how strict you are about your weight limit. Heres a link to the scope:

Does the Spartan run a BDC type elevation turret?<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: YN*Dotte</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Hows about a IOR 2-12x36 spartan? The 2.5-10X32 is an excellent choice. I know you said less than 15X but I would go with the 3.5-15X50 NF and just not go to the full magnification. The 50mm objective lens to me is much brighter than the 32mm, at least to my eye.

Re: Need a little scope advise

I have thought about the 3-15 NF, but I am trying to shave ozs. because I will take this rifle afield to stalk deer and the like. Every little bit helps-I beleive there is a 10 oz. difference between the 2.5-10 annd the 3-15. I do love me a Nightforce.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Santo</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: m14er</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I am putting together a lightweight AR in .308 for hunting that I want to also use as a target rifle out to 600 yds. I bieleve its MOA/MOA, with 1/4 moa adjustments.

Re: Need a little scope advise

I think you got it right the first time. If you can afford it, go with the 2.5-10X32. Since you have a 5.5-22X, you know what that looks like.

This is my 2.5-10X32 Nightforce on top of my SPS Tactical. The scope looks like a miniature when compared to the 3.5-15X and the 5.5-22X scopes.

The 2.5-10X32 is an excellent all around scope. You did mention target shooting though. This is where you have to assess what your needs really are. If you mostly target shoot and will only use the rifle once or twice a year for hunting and you don't need to lug it through the woods much, you might want to opt for a higer magnification scope. When target shooting with the 10X, I don't have any problems shooting at stuff like golf ball out to 200 yards or so, but hitting paint balls and such at 100 yards isn't really easy. It just depends on what you shoot at. If you're just shooting at steel, you're good for a long ways out.

I'm not going to debate the "bang for the buck" value of the Super Sniper, and as nice as it is, it isn't a Nightforce.

I'm an MOA guy and, since I know the terrain where I use the rifle it's on, I opted for the simple NP1 reticle, although I did get the Zero Stops.
