This is what I have:

100 208gr a-max bullets
98 pcs of new, prepped Win 300wm brass
1 lb each of H1000, 4831sc, RL 22

Shooting a 26" Custom M70 with a sendero contour Hart barrel, and I want to get some good intial data to focus on and work up from...I don't know that my rifle will like the 208's although it does well with 190smk's and other bullets I have used.

I'd like to go to the range with a mix of loads. I don't get to the range often, so when I get to go I want it to be a productive day. I've loosely worked up a plan, but I thought I'd ask those with more experience then me. Thanks.

Here is what I recently learned from an experienced 50 BMG shooter, when it comes to loading the 50 BMG, but also applies to other caliber as well.. You can load them at the range. I would pick a starting load and increase it by 0.5 grain increment. Keep shooting it, just one round per load, until you get to the ceiling of your powder curve. Of course, if you can chrono it at the same time, it's even better. Once you get the "desired" velocity, or max of the poweder, then back off about 2.5-3 grains and work up your load in groupings of 4-5 rounds per load. That way you don't waste bullets, powder, primers. I would recommend go up in increment of 0.2 grains at that time. Save you several trips to the range. Just a thought. Have fun. BTW, I load my with RL22.

I'd stick with H1000 and RL22. Load up 5 of each powder charge and run them over the chrono when you test them. Shoot them at both 100 and 300 yards to see what they will do close and at distance. Shoot 100 first when chronoing and then find which groups well and gives good velocities and load some more up and test them at 300.

I use 77grns of H1000 with the 208s and also used 71grns of RL22. Both in Win cases. Obviously start lower as those loads might not be safe in your rifle.

Why do you think your rifle wouldn't like the 208s? What twist is your barrel?

I was wondering the same thing(about the twist rate). I moly coated my 208s and push them to 3050fps w/ 81 grains of Retumbo. 26" bbl w/ a can. Gets out there pretty good!
