So i have been waiting to get a build going for some time now because what i have just isn't enough. My college bills are through the roof right now and just cant get it done till some are paid off which the way its looking might be a little time. I picked up a nightforce last year for this build. Im currently working at a gun shop and had an employee just trade in there Remington XCR tactical 300. mag with a 40X trigger and put into a HS precision stock with an aluminum bedding block. Hes put on a real nice muzzle break and bolt Knob with a 1:10 twist Barrel. I have shot with him and with that rifle while it was sitting in a AI stock and it was incredible shooter. I can pick this gun up for 800 dollars in mint condition but put back into the HS precision stock. Now the thing im trying to debate between is purchasing this to hold me over for now, as he will through in a nightforce 20 moa rail and a bunch of unshot brass, and i already have H1000 and 210 Bergers at home so this would fit perfectly for me and my bills. If not i would be building a 300 win mag anyways but the build will take 1-1.5 years and cost me a heck of a lot more.

Now i have seen this thing shoot and it does it very very well :p but i always see people steering away from this and going sendero instead which im not sure why as the 40X trigger is very nice i thought especially for now. should i just keep the money and keep saving for that custom or pick this up and use it to practice with until some bills are paid off and put a little work in it till i can get my build rolling?

Sounds like your hunting for reassurance on a decision you've already made. I would roll with buying the one you know is a good shooter and start getting some quality trigger time.

I was just double checkin making sure I wasn't going make a bad decision here. Luckily the gun I have now my bro wants to buy off me so if we can work out a fair family deal then Id basically get this gun for next to nothing, get some load data worked out for it, get my nightforce on top and I may even have it ready for my moose hunt this year

Looks like my little brother would like to purchase my current hunting rifle which would help fund this rifle. That helps my decision a little as well

As soon as you get the 300 mag, go ahead and put in an order for a top of the line barrel. Most barrel makers are quoting 6-12 months for delivery. That 300 will need a barrel sooner than later. This way no waiting.

I have a 5r SS mils pec .300 win mag. Put a Jewell HVR and a break as well as an AICS. Topped with a NF NXS 5.5x22x50. I JUST pit the AICS on but it shot GREAT in the HS stock. 1,000 yards is a breeze with a 215 Berger or a 208 amax. Only thing is I wish my barrel was a little heavier. Heats up a little faster than I would like. But it's a pleasure to shoot. And will hold very tight groups out to 1,000 plus yards

When you're shooting a .300 WM, a heavier barrel isn't going to help you much "staying cool". A 208 A-Max or 215 Berger backed by 77 grains of H-1000 are going to heat up any barrel pretty darn fast. Might as well just let nature take it's course on your barrel and have Grizzly Industries on speed dial. They carry Bartlein barrels in stock.
