I hate to post a redundant thread but I am need of some up to date advice. I am currently having a 260 rifle built and need optics. There are 3 main scopes that im looking at.. the gun will be strictly for target shooting out to 1000 yards. And my budget is around $1200 and with the warranties these days, Im perfectly fine buying used.

1) Hdmr g2
2) SS 5-20
3) vortex pst 6-24 ffp

I know that many different factors come into play such as mil/mil, zero stop, high speed, etc etc. However, im just looking for the scope that you get the most bang for the buck used/new at that price, whatever the specs may be.. thanks for any advice, it is much appreciated. I live in a small town and dont have access to one of the listed scopes let alone all of them to try out..sorry again, I know some will roll their eyes at this thread.

Re: Need advice on a scope...

I love my SS 5-20. I also like doing business with Chris Farris an SWFA. I have had many very good transactions with them over the years and I would not hesitate to do business with them again.
An as warranties....... I deal with people not paper. Chris's word is better than an lawyers contract.

Truth is, all the scopes you listed are fine, and all of them fail and break [ rarely ].
It is a matter of personal preference and how deep your pockets are.
If at all possible check different scopes out yourself before you buy. See what your preference is.

I would choose the Razor.

My god guys, his budget is $1,200...if you have the extra money, a Nightforce is the way to go. However, with the scope you listed, my pick would be the Vortex PST hands down. I have handled all the scopes listed and personally would pick the PST every time. The PST has more features than the other two scope at a better price, and a great customer service. There's nothing wrong with the other two as they are great scopes, but the PST is light, has FFP, zero stop, and matching adjustments in either MOA or mils. You don't find that many features in many scopes, much less at or under $1,500. You will be more than satisfied with any of them, the PST gets my pick.

Forgot to add that you can use it at and past 1000 yards because I have, and several people at the 1000 yard competition I go to use them, and they are all on .308's. A .260 will require even less adjustment, so you should have absolutely no problems.

haha..thank you for realizing my budget and staying within that price range.. I realize that the razor and NF are better scopes however I wouldnt be asking about the 3 listed scopes if money wasnt a factor.
