I’ve got a Tikka CTR in .260 that I don’t shoot as much as I should so I’m thinking about upgrading it with a new stock - my first chassis - and I may give it to one of my kids. Maybe a little sprucing up will cause it to get pulled out of the safe more often. Lol! I know nothing about chassis’ and I’d like some advice. I’ll probably be sending the rifle off to WTO to have a SwitchLug installed in the near future. So, if there’s a chassis that’ll accept a SwitchLug, without modification, that’d be a bonus. I definitely want a chassis that incorporates an adjustable cheek piece and some LOP and I’d like something on the lighter weight side. I’m a year-round guide and outfitter and I do a lot of predator hunting; so I prefer a rifle that doesn’t suck to tote around. But I’m also not looking to create a mountain rifle either. I just want something that’ll work as both a hunting rifle and a entry into competition shooting. I want something that has a barrel channel that’ll except a Proof barrel. I think that just about covers what I know I want. So.....

Which chassis’ do you recommend I look at?

One extra note: I’m seriously considering having this rifle rebuilt at WTO into something like a 6.5PRC or a wildcat like the 6.5 Sherman Short Mag to drive the newer 156gr Berger’s. Problem is, the factory 143gr 6.5prc ammo is 2.95” (from my understanding) but the AICS mags only allow 2.85” and even the CTR mags only allow 2.95” OAL. So, I dunno if that 6.5prc ammo will even fit in a Tikka magazine. *scratches head* Just thinking I may need a chassis that’ll accept Tikka mags. Or, do chassis also require a separate bottom metal? Anyone know how to run 6.5prc in a SA chassis? I know that Tikka actions arereally popular for 6.5prc builds because they’re a bit longer than most SA’s; but not sure how to get around the mag issue?

I would look at the KRG Bravo for what you are looking at doing. MDT is coming out with a new stock like chassis that will be released later this month at shot show. I am waiting myself for mdt’s release. GRS makes a nice chassis/stock, but they need to be bedded.

I have the same rifle in an XLR Carbon... I switched from a KRG X-Ray. Honestly, I wish I would've stayed with the KRG. The Carbon is heavy... heavier than the KRG even though its got that fancy carbon fiber tube forend. Also, the KRG cheek piece adjustment is way quicker.

If you get the KRG and don't like it, I'll trade you with a Carbon! haha

This.
The “Short Action” Tikkas will take the “Non Binder Plate” MDT magazines with no modification. 2.960” OAL if you need it

I have a KRG X-Ray in FDE that I used last year for my PRS 22BR. Switching to a GGS Raptor this year, so I will have it listed somtime in the next week or so.

I would think twice about the switchlug, lots of prefits out the for Tikkas and more coming all the time.

You will have to open your bolt face to go PRC or SSM.

My CTR started as a 20" 260 and when the barrel was done, I switched to 6.5 Creedmoor. At the time there was better brass available for the 6.5.
I get 2835 out of a 23.5" Bartlein with Re16 and 140 grain bullets out of the Creedmoor. If you want somthing faster, flatter, with less recoil for your kids to shoot, look at the 131 ACE and the 25 Creedmoor.
