I'd like to fill two cadwell lead shot carrier bag with a product similar in weight to lead but that which costs substantially less. These bags are shaped to be filled with 25lb bags of lead shot.

I will be using these bags to weight down the bipod on my big boy.

I have be told about a sand filler similar to tailings which can be found naturally. They told me they once filled half their truck bed with the product from a roadside ditch in WI just south of Madison.

I went to Menard's and got a bag of white play sand. Worked good for me and I didn't have to worry about moisture.

Right on but I'd like something heavier. These bags with lead together should weight 50lbs, like the bag of playsand. With sand the weight I'm looking for just isn't there.

Sinclair shooting supply sells "Heavy Sand" for the bags. It looks a lot like black mica. Probably a type of sand used in casting. Pricewise, I'm not sure. You can always resell the lead shot.

I was not aware of that, I'll check into pricing and post up what I find for the masses. Thanks for the info.

Ouch. $20 for 15 pounds. I'll keep looking.

See if you can get small steel punchings from an engineering shop they'll prob be happy to get rid of them and they'll weigh a bit or maybe dwarf from a fly cutter it can be grainy like coarse sand and it's the best price prob free
