That is an interesting idea, I don't think I've seen one like that before.
It might be something I could draw up and get the Dawson guys to make a couple of.
Would you be thinking of something like this but with a dagger shape blade?
How long would you want the blade to be?
Triangle, or more long and wide or more long and thin?
What kind of sheath do you want & how much retention do you want on it?
On leather sheaths you can do the standard strap and pin so you have to unclip it, but that seems a bit cumbersome.
On Kydex, I have a couple sheaths where the knife will not come out for anything unless you push the hidden detent aside and then draw.
Even a super basic version makes for a surprisingly sturdy lock.
For example this one here:
You can pull as hard as you want and twist and struggle, but unless you know to press out the little detent it's not coming out.
I would lean towards a good bottle of booze. A 30 or 40 year old port is a good way to say thanks.

You know, I actually have a bunch of .080 kydex and high density foam in my basement I planned to use to make a few holsters and sheaths, and never got around to it. That’s a great idea, and I’ll have to take a look at the TDI and see how I could remedy my issue. I liked having it on me just in case, but that one incident soured me on the shitty factory sheath. Thanks for the inspiration!
Straight and thin is way to go. I find curved is harder to handle and also straight is easier to make a 2 hand grip with.
And the edges don’t need to be sharp. Just a halfway decent point. It’s a solo use just to punch holes in someone until you can safely remove your duty weapon.
Also, the more utility it has, the more often you’ll pull it out in front of people and educate them on what/where to look in the future.

The guy got you a place to hunt. Most people are paying a fee and property tax bill for a hunting spot.
Get the guy a day spa trip for his wife. Mani/pedi, steam bath and a massage. Then dinner at a top place for both of them. If they need a sitter for children, take care of that too.

There’s a lot of really good suggestions on here. Any of them would be great. More importantly though, find a way to relay to him that you appreciate what he does and assure him that the silent majority still stands behind him. It’s an extremely tough job now days and there’s an unbelievable amount of folks who buy into the media and/or propaganda. It has taken a heavy toll on the profession’s morale. Small things can go a long ways for these guys.

2. Help him out with some major project he has going on.
3. Help out the landowner if the opportunity presents itself.

Not doable, it's a 4 day RT drive. Won't have time for anything else but the hunt. Property owner is getting a trespass fee.
Be careful, you'll be branded a racist if you can say something like that
Still haven’t heard what the max you’re willing to spend would be. Like I said before, private land lease/hunting rights aren’t typically cheap.
