First off, I just found this forum, and really glad I did. I've been reading lots of good information.

Here is my questions...

I use to shoot long range about 20 years ago, and really enjoyed it, but that was a time when a modified Remington 700 308 was towards the top of the list. So much has changed over the course of 2 decades. :) I want to get back into long range shooting, and I am looking for a solid platform that can use interchangeable barrels for different calibers. I've been toying with the idea of the SRS A1 or the Barrett MRAD, are there any others out that would be a better choice? Is there any cons to these systems?

Thanks for the help, and this is a great site :)

Honestly, there's a lot of good information on this subject in a recent thread: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/forum/...rel-technology

The long and short of it is that there are a number of options, depending upon your expectations in regard to the ease and repeatability of switching barrels.

As has been mentioned, the DTA SRS is a great option, as are the Barrett MRAD and Accuracy International AT/AX; those are all platforms that have been designed to allow for easy, user-replaceable barrels. The Ruger Precision Rifle is another option. However, if you're willing to purchase a barrel vise and engage the services of a good 'smith, then the world is your oyster.

The RPR barrels can be changed without a barrel vise. What I was trying to say is that if you're willing to buy/use a barrel vise, nearly any action can be utilized as a multi-barrel host.

Honestly, why not just continue to shoot your Remington 700? It would give you an opportunity to regain some of your skill sets. I don't see a reason to buy the latest and greatest just because PRS and internet crowds are doing that. Shoot your .308, figure out how good (or bad) you are and go from there.

I'd spend money on ammo and practice before spending it on An expensive multi caliber system like the MRAD.

Yes, I've thought about that as well, but just like any gun nut... I wanted to play with something new :)

I have the SRS and I think it has the fastest barrel change system of any of them. Not sure how much that means to you. I also found it the easiest.

It also seems to be the single most versatile system as you can go from .223 to 338lm and almost anything in between.
Hell, I saw a video a couple days ago of some guys shooting a .510 javelin. Also seen a .510 whisper so there's a ton of flexibility.

I currently have the .223, .308, 6.5 creed, and 300wm barrels. That'll do everything I need.

The SRS is also a great hunting platform for me. I have the Covert version so in the super compact package it's easy to get in and out of the truck, and through brush without getting hung up on stuff. Not the lightest hunting gun by any means, but hey could be worse and I enjoy the bonding time haha
