Hello,
Sorry if this isnt the right spot, but has anyone ever had issues getting gear back from a gunsmith? I paid this guy $350 for a barrel last summer and it never came in, I tried to contact and he was practically impossible to get to answer his phone, emails, etc. I even have his cell phone number. He was supposed to bring the money and the reamer of m in ne to mammoth, which he says he had there, but I jacked my back up on day 2 and my partner and I left that morning after the first ruck. Since then I've been trying to get my money and reamer back and even sent a prepaid box to him to send it back in. Roughly 3 weeks after he got the box he replied to an email and said "it's in the mail" this was march 9th. Nothing showed for another week, and finally I got $340 in the mail in an envelope on the 19th that was post marked on the 16th, not the 9th when he told me it was in the mail. I still have not recieved the reamer, the prepaid package I sent him, and am out $10. Everything is a cash only business with him, and no receipt. Is there anything I can do to force his hand to get my stuff back. At this point it's just a facebook joke and is annoying. Any help or answers?

Business owners who do not satisfy a commitment are a business in trouble. I think its safe to say that folks who enter this trade do so with the best of intentions. Then reality begins to set in and the sobering fact that it's not an easy game to play in. The punctuation to this story are tighter and tighter purse strings along with the dodging the phone calls and emails game. "It's in the mail, two weeks, or that vendor fucked me" is a defacto response that's been a classic red flag for decades.

There's always the courts but that is never easy nor is it cheap.

There is something to be said for moving on. It's annoying, its frustrating, and it'll eat at you like cancer if you let it. Life is too short though. The good news is that there are at least 10 shops that actively advertise on here that would slice their wrists before ripping someone off.

Good luck and sorry this happened to you.

Gunsmiths, silencers, recently night vision stuff. We've seen/heard about some substantial losses here. But it happens everywhere else too, contractors, wedding-planners, etc. Fortunately, you got some money back and didn't lose too much.

like everyone else i have a story about comms and ammo/gunsmith

very very long story short i stopped contacting him and found his wife on facebook

i commented on one of their new family photos and how the kids looked great then i PM'd her

about how i might have to call the ATF and local law enforcement because if the rifle shipped like i was told it was it must have been stolen in transit and "i didnt want them getting in trouble and having the ATF show up to their door"

magically i received a phone call from the guy in about 15 minutes

more idiots who cant feed themselves...

Well so far I've just decided to have the sheriff office ask him about it, but they honestly cant do much. I have also allowed him and his friends a platform on a facebook post to make themselves look ignorant. I am letting it go. It's a $300 or little less reamer, so worse case I'm out one reamer. Thanks for the words of assurance though. Greatly appreciated all.

As much as you'd like to think I'm a thief and lair, it just ain't so. You had an opportunity to grab both money and ranger in Georgia, you didn't. You got more money back on your return than you initially requested, your reamer is in the mail, nothing else I can say. So you can keep the extra $40 because you've earned it, I myself couldn't have stirred the pot any better.

I said 300, you said 350. I am fine giving you the 40 back, as I said on facebook even though you said 350 and I said 300.. I cant remember what it was.. the reamer was sent out a month ago and I still dont have it, and the money was sent out the 16th and received the 19th.. even though you told me it was in the mail in an email from march 9th.... again, of I get it and ots post marked prior to the 8th, I will be more than happy to publicly apologize. But the fact that you wouldn't answer or respond to calls. Texts, messages, etc doesnt make me want to trust you after the postmark issue of the envelope that was supposedly in the mail 10 days prior to what the postmark on the envelope says.

This is the reason people are going for modular type rifles in my opinion. We will always need great gunsmiths but the ones that are not upfront and honest leave a bad taste in your mouth. A lot of people start with savages doe this reason. As they reach their limitations they upgrade to something they can build themselves with prefit barrels etc...
