Ok, it looks like I will be sporting a Leupold 6.5-20x50 mkIV m5 here soon for a few months and if I like it I can purchase it at 50% off. Now with that being said I am in need of a base. I am looking at the Sphur but I feel like it may be too high. What do you guys think? I would think keeping the scope as close to the centerline would be best but then again shooting longer ranges you may need that adjustment. So, I am lost. I plan on shooting around 1000 yards with this thing over time, maybe farther.

I run Ken Farrell currently. 20 MOA down. Also Farrell rings.

Spuhr is superb and had they had one compatible with USO T-Pal when I set my TRG up, that is the way I would have gone. Today, they have a T-Pal compatible mount, and I am debating changing out my mounts to the Sphur. But so far have not.

A number of people here run the Near base and it is highly-thought-of. You can't go wrong.

If you are shooting 1000 yards, you need a down base with a .308. 20 MOA should be plenty.

Depending on your scope choice, I would go Sphur first, then either Farrell or Near. Both are very safe choices and are very, very well-made.

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

Our TRG direct mount is 35mm(1,35") high and there is no need for à base ( no need for the cost either) alternatvie to that is to buy à base and rings but that would be as High as the base usally are 10mm (.400) and the rings 1"....

So you dont have any height issue.
Our 30mm TRG mounts comes in 24 Moa tilt, so you dont need the base for that resdon either.

Ok, can someone tell me where I can get a sphur mount in the States! It looks to me like Sphur makes a topnotch product and I would be crazy not to put one on there! It's a little high but looks like it is totally worth it!

Do a search for SPUHR it should come up on accessories for sale.
    Good luck.

The Spuhr is awesome - and I don't find the 34mm one high for my 50mm objective Premier - in fact, any lower and the front cap would need shaving to close (as it is, the cover touches the barrel a bit upon closing).

I got mine from Mile High, though I neglected to use the SH discount code - don't repeat my mistake!

As advance warning, you will need 18 in/lb and 45 in/lb torque drivers to mount up (you should double check my numbers with the PDF instructions available online) and if you follow instructions exactly, rosin (the kind Brownell's sells for making barrel wrenches gripper). There's a lot of love here for a specific torque tool, though I used a Wiha adjustable driver myself.
