Please help. I have a Rem 700P in 300WM. Nothing but accuracy problems. Are these rifles nothing but junk? Today I shot some Federal Gold Match 190gr. Not accurate at all, cant even do 1" at 100 yards and the cases stick in the chamber and are very hard to extract. Nightforce scope, rings, and base on it. Could it be this ugly long whippy barrel doing it? PLEASE help. Thanks much!

I have the same gun and I'm pinging at 700 yards all day long. How many bullets have you tried?? Do you reload?p? Typically, the throats on 700p's are verrryyy long. So you may be getting too much of a jump... Also, check the simple things... proper bedding, scope rings torqued right things of that nature. I think SAMMI specs say 3.340.. I reload and my OAL is 3.602" on 210 berger vlds. When I first got the rifle I loaded according according to sammi specs and it shot like shit. If you want to get the most out of your gun, put a break on it and reload.

oh yeah, forgot to ask were your bullets laid out in the sun for a while???? Sounds like over pressure or a head space problem

I have the same rifle. There was plenty of QC issues, but accuracy was and still is good. Sticky bolt with factory ammo; try re-torqueing the action screws. It sounds like it’s in a bind.
From factory, I think I was somewhere around 3.55X COAL to hit the lands w/ a 190 SMK (yea, too long, not enough neck/bullet). If yours is similar, you’re jumping a pretty good bit with factory ammo. I don’t think that’s the problem, but it can’t help.

My experience is that some factory Remmingtons shoot very well, while others have been irreparably destroyed at the factory.
With a Remington factory rifle the quality control is you. If it doesn't shoot to spec you are supposed to send it back. But because the factory .330WMs are not headspaced at the shoulder the accuracy parameters are greater for them than for the other rifles. The factory acceptance standard for the .300WM (Sendero) is 2 MOA; the regular PSS is 1.5 MOA. So, in this case if you send it back they will tell you it is within spec.
That said, it is hard to shoot a light rifle in .300WM very well unless one is an experienced shooter. But FGMM should not be sticking in that chamber.

Have you ever shot less than 1" groups with other 300WMs? Has any other competent shooter shot the rifle yet to confirm it is indeed the rifle?

the kick is nothing. i understand what youre saying but i dont flinch and actually enjoy recoil. i shoot 416 rigby, 458 WM, 45-70 in a guide gun, IJ/AMAC 5100. i not flinching.

Maybe you knicked your crown. My buddy is a gunsmith and hates the fact we put are rifles barrel down in the truck.

What experience do you have with precision rifles? Is there another rifle that you regularly shoot sub-MOA with? What rest are you shooting it off of? Any unusual marks on the brass?

My rifle started out as almost that exact same configuration only with Badger base and rings and I had the exact same problem. I had the barrel cut from 26" to 24" with a target crown and it made a HUGE difference. Still wasn't the accuracy I was after until I had it bedded. I agree with checking the simple things like torque. And definitely get that crown checked.

Bedding the HS Precision stock and having the crown recut could make a huge difference. I did both on mine and it improved things no end (although most of the time I shoot it in a LA AICS).

I sighted in a new department PSS the other day: Three shots to zero and a three-shot group that was one ragged hole. It's a spec thing: Some are way in spec; some are almost out of spec. Both go out the door because the specs are wide.

I always let someone else shoot my "problems" to see if they experience it too. It's an easy check for "me or the rifle", usually.

I agree that remington's QC is off and that it can be hit or miss out of the box. I also still think they are the best "starter" platform to use for the time being and build the hell out of over time as the budget works for it. Mine started as that same build and is now a full APA build in an AICS that I will NEVER be able to outshoot. There are a lot of variables and it can be tough to narrow down which is the culprit. But like I stated before, I'd start with the crown and then get it bedded. And I don't mean to sound like a dick, but are you sure it's the gun's problem

Have you checked the scope. None of my NF's have ever gave me any troubles but it can happen. I would atleast check it out. Good luck

Thank you all for your kind responses. I truly appreciate them. I cleaned and polished the chamber, that seemed to cure the extraction problems, maybe some dried up oil? Dont know. Its not the scope, had it mounted on my AMAC and another rifle for many rounds. To Trapshooter 12: I dont know what "qualified" to shoot a one hole group means. If youre asking if i have ever done that....jagged hole, yes. One hole.…no. But I would expect all shots to enter the diameter of a quarter at 100yds, not the diameter of the small end of 12oz dixie cup. No one has mentioned elliptical bore yet, anyone ever had that before? Going to wack off an inch and recrown.

your 700p may have trouble getting those 190s stable. the heaviest bullet i could shoot nicely was a 175.

I had 2 Remington Police rifles and both started shooting around 1,5 MOA at average (at least 3 groups of 5 shots at 100 meters).
One I cleaned the stock compound that overflew on the rear screw hole (tang)bedding block and on the part behind the recoil lug.
It made a HUGE diference as the rifle started to shoot around 1,0 MOA average.
Then, after 200 rounds, it seems that the bore was somewhat polished by firing and it started getting better accuracy.
From that point on, it was a consistent 0,70 MOA average (again, it is at least 3 groups of 5 shots at 100 meters, not yards) rifle.
The second rifle, sufered from the same problem and went by the same treatment.
It went from a 2,0 MOA rifle average (yes, was that bad!) to a reasonable 0,85 MOA average.
From my experience with factory and custom rifles, get an AVERAGE of 0,50 MOA for at least 5 groups of five shots at 100 meters is hard for a factory rifle.
I learned to not expect that kind of accuracy (average!!!) from a factory rifle.
Just my 02 cents.

I have owned several Rem 700 rifles and some were accurate out the box and others were not, those that were not I got rid of right away. Right now I have 700 Compact Tactical in 223 that is an absolute tac driver I'm talking 1/4-1/2 with no problem. I got lucky with this one. Try all these things the fellows recommend and if nothing works get rid of it save your money and buy a Sako TRG or a AI mk2 and that will solve all your....
