Rifle Scopes Need Help/Tips for adjusting Nightforce Atacr 5.5-25x56 (Specifically Windage)

Recently bought this scope due to the many good things ive heard. Had it mounted by a reputable gunsmith, and will be setting zero stop with his help soon. But... i am dying of frustration as i cannot figure out how to adjust the windage. Read the instructions, and to my understanding it should be as simple as unthreaded the cover off the windage turret, backing the set screw off (cant remember the exact amount of rotation but i followed the instructions to a T while at the range), putting pressure on the turret (in toward the scope) as you turn to engage and make the needed adjustment. The bore sighting my guy provided got me withing a mil and a half but no matter how i manipulated the turret, it didnt adjust either way. Am i missing something here? Im new to precision rifles, and high end optics. But i can read and follow directions farely well. Pretty sure its operator error, but reading this, did any of you have an "ahh-HAH!" moment and instantly recognize what is going on? Please tell me what im missing! Specifically hoping for nightforce gurus' and especially owners of this scope. Thank you all in advice! Tried searching for this topic but could sort out anything of help via youtube or this forum, just lots of videos about the zero stop, which i havent gotten to yet. Take care!

Ps, im a super noob. So when i say 1 and a half mils, i mean at 100 meters i had to hold between the first and second full tick

By your description are you saying you only made 1 1/2 clicks total adjustemnent ?
If so and your turret is in .1 mil clicks you still need to go another 13 clicks to be at 1.5 mil correction at 100 yards.

It also sounds like by your OP you were following the directions to reset the turret to zero not actually making adjustments.

No, i actually ran through the entire span of the adjustments on the windage turret. Think its six mils, im familiar with the conversion between clicks and the corresponding change on target. i only saw a negligible shift. Nothing near the amount of change you would expect. And are you familiar with the atacr? I was reading verbatim out of the manual, but i guess the title of the section "setting the windage adjustment" and the phrase "re-index to zero" confused me. Can you give me an idiot proof step by step of how to get your windage right for this model? Cause i guess im not sure what setting a windage adjustment means if not actually altering your POA to meet your POI windage wise

You don’t loosen the set screw until you’re done setting the zero. Once zeroed, loosen the set screw, re-index the knob so the “0” on the knob matches the hash mark on the scope body, then re-tighten the screw. You’re done after that. I owned this very scope till recently, and it has a totally basic windage knob.

It doesn't really matter if it's an ATACR or a Bushnell or whatever the adjustments at such a close range as 100 yards will be so close even with some error that they would be negligible.
If you ran through the full range of adjustments on the windage turret I assume you were also looking through the scope with the rifle in a fixed position to see your reticle tracking while adjusting.

I owned this very scope till recently, and it has a totally basic windage knob.

Alright, that sounds reasonable. Reading through the manual before actually tinkering with the scope on my rifle probably led me to grossly overthinking this. Ill return to the range, this time with a good rear/squeeze bag and a range finder and see what i end up with. Thanks for not making me feel too much like i went full ree-ree (though i certainly did :/ )

Supersube and you are right, i messed up my fiddling with the set screw and thinking that was required to set the windage up initially. Which in hindsight shoulda made zero sense, as that obviously negated any ability to actually alter the windage.... dumbass award goes to me. Thanks you two!
