Need help with bulge on brass

I recently purchased a few hundred rounds of primed 308 WW Super brass. I started to load up some rounds today and noticed that all the brass has a slight bulge where the neck meets the shoulder. Could someone please tell me what the bulge is and is it safe to shoot and how will it affect the accuracy. The only thing that I could think it was from was that maybe it had been neck turned without taking it all the way to the shoulder.

Thanks for any input.

Looks to me like someone's partially sized the neck. If this the case then try a few empties in your chamber before loading chances are they might not fit (unless they've been body sized...)

partial sized neck for sure. run a full length sizer until it goes away . that is it. i have done similar operations on used brass and i have heard of guys fire forming brass doing this so the brass seats where the new shoulder will be after firing.

Re: Need help with bulge on brass

If you bought new, unfired brass, this is strange because as the others have said, according to your photos, they look like they have been partial full length resized.

If they won't chamber, I would just full length resize them, conventionally. But, I have never seen new brass that looks like that? BB

They were not new when I purchased them.

Did you check your re-re-sized cases for headspace in your bolt gun to be sure you don't have too much headspace now after the new resize? Excessive headspace can cause safety issues.

HTH!

No this brass is for my SASS and I have never messed with headspace on a semi. I just FL size and go. My bolt actions are a different story though.
