Okay, probably the worst question to ask but I can't set my scope up right. I have an Ar15, flat-top, 18 in barrel and no iron sights. For the scope I have a Bushnell Banner. Yeah, I know it's not the greatest but it's all I can afford right now. Well, I mounted it and set the target out to 50 yards and nothing. I'm not even hitting the cardboard the target is mounted too. I try adjusting it every which way but nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Start closer, like at 10 yards. If you cant get it adjusted to center at that range you may have to adjust your rings or something. Once you get it pretty close at 10 yards, go to 50, then 100, etc.

Set your rifle on a bench and remove the bolt. Look down the barrel and line it up with the target. While holding the barrel on target, adjust the scope to the target. That will get you close at 50 yards.

Chappy76,

Get a level, and level the rifle from side to side.

add rings and scope.

Once that is set right for you, and the rifle is still level "side to side" place the level on top of the elevation turret and level the scope "side to side"

Once done, I remove the BCG and look down the barrel to a spot down range, and adjust the optic's reticle to that spot.

That is a basic boresight.

Re: Need help with setting up my scope

Did you roughly center the crosshairs before you started? Crank it all the way to the left then either count clicks or revolutions and crank it all the way to the right then coming back halfway. Also do the same for elevation, all the way to the top and then count revolutions or clicks to go all the way to the bottom then comd back halfway. That will at least get your scope back to somewhere near center. Then try a 10 or 25 yard distance to see if you are on the paper and go from there.

After that then you can work on verticle tracking and other refinded adjustments for the scope from other threads on here.

My son is running one on his ar.I bought it about 5 years ago for a cheap back up.It's served us well! I can't complain, hell it was only 90 bucks!
