ok guys i had a change in plans
i was going to shoot in a league with my service rifle @ 200,300,500 and 600 yards only
now i cant make it that day so i have to shoot 300,500,600 and 1000 yard
i got my service rifle for 600 yard max but i need a load for my 308 to make 1000 yards
right now i shoot berger 155 vld's with 47g varget @ 2840 fps.
sighted in @ 300 yards, @ 1000 yards it would be -299"
i have nikon scope on it and 20moa base
i'm not sure if i can make that shot.
the longest shot i took with this rifle is antelope @ 469 yards

so can you let me know what you are using for 1000 yards and
how much of a drop you get
thanks

Re: need help

With 155 vlds and 2840fps you shouldnt have a problem reaching the 1000yd mark. The question is does your Nikon have enough elevation. What model Nikon do you have and what is the rifle specs you are shooting? You need to plug your numbers in at JBM ballistics cause your calculations are a little off. It definitely shouldnt be almost 300inches of drop. More like 40moa. You must be thinkin of clicks.

Woops...I stand corrected. It is around 300 inches of drop. If your scope is in 1/4inch clicks convert it to MOA (inch at 100yds)thus making it easier to dope. 50moa of internal adjustment and a 20moa base will get you to 1000.

I load my 155 scenars to 47.8 gr Varget and send them out at 2925-2950 fps. I get 1000 yd. just at 30 MoA in hot conditions (100dF), and 32.5 MoA in cold conditions (32dF).
