Hello All,
I need help.....I am looking for information regarding the pluses and minuses of Rock River's LAR-8 w/ 20 inch heavy barrel. Accuracy and reliability are of great concern. Also, how does it compare to its Bushmaster, Armalite peers? I have done a search here on the Hide and have come up empty. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Chris

Re: Need Info on Rock River LAR-8

I've got the 16" and 26" varmint versions. Both have been uterly reliable and accurate.

I did have the bolt stop break on me with the 16" version. I heard it, but the gun kept running, just no bolt stop. Their warranty department was excellent to work with and in a couple days I had a new bolt stop. I run the 16" with a suppressor.

I have found that with some really old beat up FAL magazines, the rifles have a hard time ejecting the magazine. The magazines function fine, but I have to grab them to get them out of the mag well. I do not have this problem with the mag they sent me or any of the newer FAL magazines. I did notice that RRA will be releasing new polymer magazines this year, per their 2010 catalog. They'll come in 20, 25, and 30 rounds.

I think RRA got it right and these rifles are much better than the Bushmaster one use to be. I also got rid of my Armalite, because I like these RRA LAR-8 so much better.

Hey guys,
Well I got a LAR 8 with 16” a few months ago and as luck would have it I just got back from the range today. Yep, I had one of those afternoon 200 yard meetings today.. hahaa

The good news is, this time my buddies didn’t shoot-up my target stand..

Anyway,
The rifle continues to function flawlessly, Note, I’ve only got 600 rounds down her, so she’s still pretty new…

I’ve never had a problem with accuracy when I do my part.. I haven’t really plopped a scope on her yet and sat down to see what she can really do, but I’m pretty sure it’s right around 1 MOA.

As the interchangeable parts or not.. Well for what its worth, I installed the following aftermarket parts with no issues at all..
1. Magpul MOE hand guards
2. Magpul MOE grip
3. Any adjustable stock. You can also install the Mapul PRS stock by simply adding a spacer, google is your friend..
4. JP muzzle brake, I really doesn’t need it thou, I just like loud brakes

So……. for what its worth, like mine..
