Thanks in advance for any help/info. I have a remmy 5r in 308. Currently it has a mark 4 4.5-14 ffp mildot. My gun smith mounted it with talley rings. I seem to see more rifle optics mounted with a steel rail and picatinny style rings. What would be your choice to mount my new vortex razor 5-20? and if its the rail with picatinny rings, should I get a rail with 20 moa angle? I'm kinda new to the bolt gun arena. Thanks

Re: Need recomendations to mount new vortex razor

I mounted my Razor on a Savage 10FCP. I started off with an EGW base (alloy) and rings (can't remember the make). I couldn't seem to maintain zero, so I switched over to a 20moa Ken Farrell steel base (bedded to the receiver) with Vortex steel rings. May be an overkill, but I have had no problems with shifting zero with this setup. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Need recomendations to mount new vortex razor

My buddies 5-20 razor has something like 13-14 mils of up left after zeroing it without a canted mount so I don't think you'll need one unless you are really cranking on it. I would get a good, solid non canted picatinny mount (I have IOR and Warne and they both work well) and a good pair of rings (Seekins, IOR, Vortex rings are seekins I think).

Badger is another good one but you'll pay for it.

Re: Need recomendations to mount new vortex razor

My Razor is mounted on an EGW alloy rail in Vortex branded Seekins rings. It's on a 300WM and it's been dropped a couple times and hasn't lost zero once.

From another thread I posted this in:

I've had the scope on and off, these rings return to zero without issue. Extremely light weight, efficient use of material while still maintaining excellent holding capability.

Here's their 35mm rings on my Razor, they're very slim line. The big lump in there is the scope level, which I've since taken off in search of something less bulky for the exact same reason you're searching for new rings.

American Rifle Co. rings for me as well. Lightweight, excellent build, low profile so its easy to see markings on the knobs.

Re: Need recomendations to mount new vortex razor

Thanks for the info gents! I agree with the comment about badger, but I didnt see 35mm rings on their website. the american rifle co. ones look sweet! as far as cranking it goes I am out to 900 yrds with the 5r 308 and the 14 power leupold. I got the razor so I can push out past 1k. I think the razor has enough mil adjust to get me there.

Re: Need recomendations to mount new vortex razor

I've got mine on a DD Ross 20 MOA Pictany rail. Got the Vortex branded Seekins steel rings and love the set up. It's rock solid and I've dialed it out to 1200 without any issues.
