I currently have a 7.62 18" OBR on order. Judging by other peoples delivery dates mine should be shipping in about 6 weeks.

In the last week or so I have started to research scopes. There are almost too many options out there. I am totally new to long distance shooting and this will be my first high end scope. I currently own a Barrett M82A1 with a Nightforce, but have never shot it past 400 yrds.

My budget is around $2500-3000 for the scope. I have been looking at USO, S&B, Heritage, March, IOR, etc, etc. Lazy21 has given me a pricing for USO scopes and his deals seem pretty good. I was semi leaning towards a USO SN-3 5x25.

The rifle will be mostly used for bench shooting out to around 1000yds. I would like a magnification of around 25x on the back end and it to be FFP with MIL/MIL adjustments.

I see a lot of people are running the HDMR's with the Horus reticle on their OBR's. Larue sells a combo mount/scope for $1750. Is it worth it to get a better scope or should I try the HDMR and put the extra money towards ammo?

How are the Horus reticles? Are they worth the extra money?

This is all new to me and I have been looking in the classified section on here. There seem to be some nice scopes available, but I just do not know which one to pick. I have never look through a S&B, USO, Premier, etc and do not know which is the best to go with.

Any information/help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Need scope recommendation

Can't go wrong with the HDMR with the 59 reticle, and plenty of $ left over for ammo. For the bench I would take a serious look at what March offers. I use a Sightron S-III 8-32X56 LRMOA. A GREAT piece of glass but in he mid-range price point. Good luck with your CRAZYMAKING scope decision.
