need smith for barrel threading

Re: need smith for barrel threading

I send all my stuff to APA in GA. Not only do the crew at APA do a really good job, they are quick to answer all my emails and calls! I can not stress how important it is to me good communication is, and APA has always responded to me in a very timely manner.

Your conversation may differ, but Ozzie over at Suarez needed my suppressor to thread a barrel for it. He is great to deal with though and very personable.

I'm not a gunsmith so I can't tell you why he needed it, but dealing with him was nothing but a pleasure. Great guy all around. He built two rifles for me and both are very well built!

Re: need smith for barrel threading

I just sent my -5R to Mark Williams @ Old Lodge Armory for the same job. He is known as triple 6 here on the hide and I would definitely recommend him based on quality, turnaround, and price. He did a great job and now I went from "I like my gun" to "I'll never sell this gun".

Not sure the same thing would happen for you but my gun went from a 1 MOA gun to about a 0.5 MOA gun by hanging a BO FTE brake on it. Mark said he didn't do anything to purposely affect the accuracy but the reality is that it groups dramatically better at 100yds. We think the weight of the FTE may have tuned the harmonics just right and the thing makes one ragged hole now where it used to be .75 to .9 with factory ammo. I plan on posting pictures of the work and before and after groups.

You might also consider the can manufacturer. YHM is fixing a local 'smith's wreck on one of mine right now - $60 to cut the bad threads off and rethread. Fortunately the "gunsmith" is also covering the cost for a new baffle stack at the same time - baffle strikes are hell on accuracy.
