All Mfg run into occasional QC issues...
However, I would rather be a repeat customer of a Mfg that acknowledged, and/or made a good faith effort to correct any said issues (and if necessary replace the product), than to a Mfg that flat out denies any QC issues exist, and instead of contacting me to address my concerns prior to returning it, simply ships it back after I specifically requested that I be contacted prior to it being returned.
I purchased a scope that was in a factory sealed box after giving the display model (with battery) a hands on inspection. After installing it without preforming the same inspection (my f**k up) I found the elevation turret was binding/tighter in spots than the display model, especially while returning to the zero stop, as well as excessive artifacts/bloom in the illuminated reticle.
"Comments from Steiner Optics Support:
Your scope was fully evaluated and found to be functioning correctly. There is no issue to repair and as such no replacement will be offered. Refunds are not offered. Your scope has been shipped".
I've had at least half a dozen scopes at half the price point of the above T5Xi 5-25x56, and have never had a problem.
For a few dollars more, a GEN II Razor 4.5-27x56 EBR-2C MRAD now proudly resides above my .300 Norma, and (in my opinion) it makes the previous occupant pale by comparison.
I'm not suggesting the above scope is a fit for your wife, but with the exception of steel which type of game animal will it be used for, and what is the caliber?
Although the above doesn't really matter in the end if QC is a concern... pay for the convenience (sales tax) and support a brick-and-mortar store that will allow you to run the turrets of the scope you decide to purchase throughout the range of adjustment, and install the battery (if it applies) so that you can check an illuminated reticle for artifacts/bloom.
